Don't forget, Trojans have Mustain
While Ohio State fans might not know what to make of the news that Southern California QB Mark Sanchez is recovering from a dislocated left kneecap, suffered on Friday, it should be kept in mind the Trojans aren't hurting for talent at the position.
Mitch Mustain assumed the No.1 role as soon as Sanchez was carted from the field, and surely you know Mustain. He was the top quarterback prospect in the country in 2006 when he signed with Arkansas, which was just minutes away from his hometown of Springdale, Ark.
And you remember his anything-but-love, one-year stay with the Razorbacks, playing for Houston Nutt. It was reminiscent of Jeff George's short-lived stay at Purdue, near his hometown of Indianapolis, before he found a more suiting and star-propelling setting at Illinois.
Whether that will turn out to be the case for Mustain remains to be seen. But it's not like USC coach Pete Carroll is reaching into the bullpen for an inexperienced starter. Mustain was 8-0 as a freshman starter for Arkansas before being inexplicably replaced late in the year in favor of Casey Dick. Among those wins was an upset of No.2 Auburn. Mustain wasn't spectacular that season, but he didn't have to be while directing an offense that featured running backs Darren McFadden and Felix Jones.
Sanchez, meanwhile, a junior, was 2-1 as the fill-in starter for injured John David Booty last year. The loss came at Oregon where Sanchez tossed two costly interceptions in the second half of a game that effectively took the Trojans out of the national title hunt.

``Any time we move the ball and it's not going off the script, the defense doesn't know what we're going to do,'' Corp said. ``I did some good things.''
Mitch Mustain said he played ``average.''
``My vision's got to improve,'' he said.
USC coach Pete Carroll said the quarterbacks were under too much duress.
``It was rough,'' he said. ``We've got to help protect them better. They're progressing.''
Carroll praised some of the freshmen, including wide receiver D.J. Shoemate, who enjoyed a long run after a short catch and defensive end Malik Jackson.
``I made a big deal to the team that this is the first chance to make a big impression,'' Carroll said.

It seems likely that we'll see more swing passes to McKnight, and when deep drops are taken, screen passes will be frequent.
BuckeyeGanoosh;1227715; said:I think the screens and TE dumps over the middle are going to be the majority of their pass offense. We have a shutdown corner in Malcom Jenkins, and they have some very talented, very unproven receivers. If we can get consistent pressure on whoever is behind center from our DL, it will be an major uphill battle for USC to move the ball affectively. Our LB's can be a force in the flats for the dump/screen plays if the DL can get in backfield on a regular basis.

buckeye78;1227740; said:Well said. Hopefully, we can cover the tight end in this game, and Heacock is agressive in a big game (sorry, still upset about defensive playcalling the last two NC games).
I hope Sanchez is back though, to limit the "well, USC wasn't at full strength" talk, though it's going to happen anyway, I'd like to limit it as much as possible.

Let 'em keep running the little dump and swing routes... that puts them in more 2nd + 3rd and longs which works to our advantages.Taosman;1227732; said:No. They will pick on Chimdi on the other side. And also dump to TE and fullback/backs.
