This is gayer than the gay thread that Taos started last year. Seriously. Just because the guy has a ton of speed doesn't necessarily mean he's the guy who should be carrying the ball every down.

And Morgan Trent is faster than Ted Ginn. Track speed and football speed are two different animals.

Brandon Saine has been tentative when he's had the ball as a running back. Part of that is age, part of it is returning from injury, but they don't play these games on consoles. It takes more than straight line speed and strength to run the football, and right now Brandon is still learning how to do that.

Robiskie, while limited quite a bit by injury, has not shown great hands... and neither is playing near their potential right now, and the Brian's will tell you as much. Yesterday was a step in the right direction.

Look, I tried to let you lose gracefully, but I guess that you have unreasonable expectations for your self.

When have I ever said that this team has no flaws, eh? Maybe you should try reading a few of my posts before you make ignorant comments like that.

Here are some comments on the Troy game:

5. The defensive line continues to be a weakness. Troy had success running right at the DT's, and there was very little pressure on the QB through the first three quarters. However, in the fourth quarter, the Buckeyes went "quick" on the DL (Heyward and Wilson at DE, Rose at NT, with Gibson or Terry as the LEO), and the line did start to disrupt some plays. Now part of that might have been Troy wearing down late in the game, but Rose especially showed that he can use his speed to beat his man one-on-one. Look for more of Mr. Rose in weeks to come....

6. Marcus Freeman has had a tendency to disappear at times, but I kinda thought that he had gotten over that with his performances late last season (Penn State, Illinois, LSU). This season, however, Freeman has seemingly reverted to his old form - although he has 26 tackles on the season (6.5 per game), I can't remember a single big play from Marcus ... and I have seen him out of position and missing tackles all too frequently.

How about USC?

Folks, I'm going to pull out the oldest cliche' in football, but it still holds true - You win games in the trenches. Like Florida in 2006 and LSU in 2007, USC beat the snot out of the Buckeyes in the trenches.

...most of the five sacks could be blamed on bad/slow decisions by the Buckeye quarterback.

The defensive line was the real weakness of the team last night (and for the last 2+ seasons). At times, the DL seemed invisible, and in fact they combined for just 4.5 tackles ... and that was against a USC offensive line that was supposed to be young and inexperienced and the Trojans' Achilles heel. The Buckeyes' front four put no pressure on Mark Sanchez, and the lone "sack" came in the fourth quarter on a play in which the Trojans had absolutely no intention of throwing the football.

The linebackers had decent games statistically, combining for 23 tackles and the aforementioned "sack", and JL made a few noteworthy plays, but it's really difficult for linebackers to operate when they've got offensive linemen in their faces all game long ... and that gets back to the defensive line not doing their jobs. Opposing teams simply aren't concerned about the Buckeyes' defensive tackles, and thus they are able to send a guard straight at Laurinaitis on every run without fear that a DT will beat his man one-on-one and blow up the play.

After the Penn State game last year, do you remember that some people were actually touting Todd Boeckman for the Heisman Trophy? Todd definitely has skills, but I have honestly never seen a player whose game falls apart so quickly at the first sign of adversity. Todd looked very good during the first quarter, and he threw a beautiful pass to Robo for a "touchdown" in the second quarter ... but after that play was called back due to holding, Boeckman more or less fell apart. On the very next series, with Ohio State still very much in the game down only 14-3 and moving the ball quite well on a pair of 11-yard runs by Pryor and Herron, Boeckman threw a picture perfect strike to Rey Maualuga for a pick six. Not only did that play seal defeat for the Buckeyes, it also likely earned Maualuga the Award formerly known as Butkus. In the second half, here is a complete list of Boeckman's pass plays, in order: sack; incompletion; intentional grounding; sack; interception. And then Terrelle Pryor finished out the game....

3. Bad things generally happen when you fail to establish the run (or at least a controlled passing attack) early in the game. Very bad things. Why didn't Ohio State make a serious attempt to run the ball last night (Pittman with ten carries, Wells only two), especially with two fine tailbacks, especially when it seemed to work the few times that it was tried, especially when Troy Smith was having an "off" game? I dunno....

4. When a defense is over-amped like Florida's was last night, it usually makes sense to try to get them out of their game by using quick hits, draws, screens, misdirection plays, etc. The Buckeyes never adjusted out of their "base" offense, and Florida kept bringing the heat. Bad results early, bad results late.

See, I can be and have been very critical of the Buckeyes as well, but I try to keep my criticism rational and cogent, and don't engage in rambling tirades. Maybe you should give it a try sometime....

Being a true fan involves loving the team thick and thin, understanding the game, the players, the scheme, but also being able to admit when we are not getting the job done as well as other people.

Since you obviously do not understand "the game, the players, the scheme", can I infer that you are not a "true fan"?

And sometimes when we are not as good as "we" hyped ourselves up to be.

Just a hunch here.... I bet that you are one of the so-called fans that likes to talk large about your beloved Buckeyes, and then has to take a lot of shit when "we" lose ... and instead of manning up, starts trashing the team and the coaching staff. Is that what you mean by "hype"?

When you can do that, then you can actually talk intelligently about the team.

Sorry for not doing cartwheels when we consistently get out coached when we have great players. I'm tired of great kids getting embarrassed because the coaches are setting them up to "not lose" instead of try to win.

Sounds like you are the one who is "embarrassed"....

Oh, and by the way ... and I'm not going very far out on a limb here ... this coaching staff cares about a thousand times more for their kids then you will ever be able even to comprehend, so don't make it look like you are trying to do the players some kind of FUCKING FAVOR by saving them from their own coaching staff. Truly pathetic....

I'm still not impressed. And I'm sorry that I didn't realize I was in the room with so many tenderfoots who are worried about a virtual cut...please. If your talents include analysis, which it appears they are, try going back and reviewing the games from this year and last. If we continue to show up as unprepared as we have this year for EVERY game, then we will have a rough road through the Big Ten. Look at the calls from the 3rd quarter yesterday, when we had great field position, and TP was looking very sharp. We might as well have punted on 1st down. That is what I'm talking about. It just seems like we're laying up from the tee box.
