Game Thread Ohio State 28, Troy 10 (Final, Sep. 20)

I think your hunch is spot on. I know the type far too well.

Actually no...you're pretty far off the mark. I always support my bucks till the end. It's too bad a guy can't actually talk about what concerns him about his team. Don't mistake criticism for disloyalty...

ING FAVOR by saving them from their own coaching staff. Truly pathetic....
I find it highly amusing to see a board who prides itself on NOT bashing coaches, players and other posters have all the heavy hitters come out of the woodwork when anybody dares to question the coaching staff and it's failure in the 3 biggest OOC games in recent memory.
I have read the last few pages of everybody jumping on tbone and gems like this quote come up where you insuiate that that poster cares less for the players than the coaches do. I have not seen anything where the players are questioned, just the schemes of the staff in recent big games.
One way to show you both care for your players AND want to be a bit innovative is maybe not running Mo Wells or Saine up the middle when everybody in the stands and on the opposing team knows exactly what is coming. When you have speed/elusive guys maybe you dont use them the same way you would use Beanie. I feel sorry for Mo who has never complained yet is forced to run plays that are destined to fail because he like Saine is forced to run plays that do not fit their style.
I care for the wellbeing of the players just as much as the next fan, to question the coaching doesnt mean you are any less concerned about them than the coaching staff.

You didn't "talk" about your concerns. You came one with an attitude and crossed the line into bashing the team and the posters of this board. There's a certain decorum that comes along with in-depth discussion. This decorum extends to those around us by being respectful, and also involves having the ability to debate and discuss in a manner that is without an overabundance of fallacies. No one on this board has a problem with criticism or negative insight. It's the presentation that matters. If you have a problem with being held to a higher standard than what happens on other boards; then feel free to go elsewhere. Those of us who post here do so, because of a passion that is tempered by humility and respect.

Point well taken....And I do agree with most of your points. But we have so many returning starters...this is not a new group. My observations hold true in the OHIO game as well. TP was not the starter, and we still had poor calling even for our veteran team.

I here you with the tone thing...but honestly, if you don't agree with the big bad secret decoder ring holders than you get jumped on...I don't need to spend 40 minutes looking up my opinion on various sites for support...it's my opinion.

I agree that the playcalling has been a little suspect.. I thought we could've benefitted from a few more medium/long routes to keep the defense honest. Seemed like we were just content with not turning the ball over, and our defense isn't good enough for us to have that attitude this year. Things improved at USC, to a degree, and I saw some new things against Troy, obviously. We don't see the kids practice, like I said, so I'm sure Tressel isn't running plays that aren't efficient or aren't being executed at all in practice. We have to keep that in mind. :tongue2:

I try not to make a big deal about playcalling. I'm a student, not a coach. The coaches have their jobs for a reason. When their bosses feel that they aren't putting forth proper effort or whatever, they'll be gone. They've been pretty successful, despite the recent losses.

Where did he bash the team?
How about respect for other people's opinions rather than if you do not post exactly what everybody else does, then go elsewhere. I have seen namecalling galore here and most of it is aimed at tbone, not the other way around; is that being respectful?
So if you want to post something controversial (in your opinion at least) you may as well go elsewhere; that is the message that I keep hearing here.

No actually I think I'll keep posting until someone can say something more inspiring than, "we were being conservative because TP was in the game and he's so fragile..." Please see all previous games this year, and the natnl champ game from last year, and see the same unsuccessful plan... still waiting

Herron is just a better football player than Saine. There's no shame in that. Herron is smaller but has no trouble running between the tackles. Herron averaged 4.7 yard on his 12 first down carries against Troy. Saine has just not shown he can or is willing to do the same.

Sure, it was nice to win the game. It was great to see Pryor play so well considering he has never even been in a college classroom yet. Sure, the defense only gave up 10 points to a spread team that in the last 10-12 games has scored alot of points against some pretty good teams.

With all that being said, after the game, not only did I feel like I had just kissed my sister, but she had given me the tongue.

Some critical questions I asked myself:

Why run a reverse with a posession receiver?
Where the hell was one of the only guys that played with a pulse against USC?
Why do the cb's play 7-10 yards off the ball against this team that's clearly throwing within 2 seconds of the snap. Did their receivers really warrant that type of respect?
Why couldn't the defense figure out when that quick pass behind the los was coming?
Why couldn't the defense stop their draw play?
What the fuck is wrong with these assholes (fans) booing TB.

Yes Virginia, OSU does throw to the tight ends. Great to see that.
Herron is clearly our best back behind Beanie, and It's not close.
Chewka played a very good game.
Our 2nd half kickoffs were very good.
I sat in A deck. I'd take C deck any day of the week over A.
Lowest attendance in 6 years? Screw 39-B. That wasteland deserves to be empty. Other than USC or scUM, that place sucks for full price.

The only thing I detest about college football is that it makes you feel like the season is ruined after 1 or 3 losses. I don't buy that bullshit because the season is too short to get pissed off after losses. (and stay that way). Regardless of record, I still sport wood evert Saturday at kickoff.

I'm agreeing with the guy.. nobody is jumping on me, and nobody has, ever. It was the tone, not the content. When you make it sound like the coaches are incompetent, people are going to get upset and situations like the current one are going to occur.

Nice....agree that Herron is the number 2 back. I think he looks like he is running harder every game. He is still young and I think if his vision improves he could be a great one... only thing that concerns me with him is that he can't make anyone miss. I would substitute Mo Wells for Herron on KR's.

nw, reciprocation is required to gain respect. He laid out blanket statements saying we have our heads buried in the sand and refuse to be critical of the team. Both incorrect. Almost all of us have been critical of both the team and coaches, but have backed it up with suggestions for improvement, not more blanket statements like "the playcalling sucks". I expressed my opinion as to why the playcalling is the way it is and he continued to bait me....and put words in my mouth. You can state your opinion without being controversial. There are spoken and unspoken rules here that make this place different from bucknuts and the scout boards. If somebody doesn't like the way things are here, nobody is making them post. I put the guy on ignore because he was arguing simply for the sake of arguing. He went off on a tangent without even addressing my arguments. It's simple, if you don't like it here...don't post.

What style plays should be run for Saine? He can't even average 20 yards on kickoff returns which is supposed to be the place to show your speed. He hasn't done one thing since his injury last year. To me, he's just a bigger verion of Mo Wells: can't break tackles.
