Game Thread Ohio State 28, Troy 10 (Final, Sep. 20)

Look at the calls from the 3rd quarter yesterday, when we had great field position, and TP was looking very sharp. We might as well have punted on 1st down. That is what I'm talking about. It just seems like we're laying up from the tee box.
By great field position you mean when we started on our own 7 yard line went 5 plays for 34 yards and started on our own 20 and went 19 yards?

Lets talk through this punting on first down thing, I may like where you are going with this...

I'm still not impressed.
Damn. Hope I can sleep tonight.

And I'm sorry that I didn't realize I was in the room with so many tenderfoots who are worried about a virtual cut...please. If your talents include analysis, which it appears they are, try going back and reviewing the games from this year and last.
I've seen them. And I've been critical, as have many. LJB layed his own criticisms out for you. You seem to be arguing with yourself at this point.

If we continue to show up as unprepared as we have this year for EVERY game, then we will have a rough road through the Big Ten.
That may very well be true, especially with an apparent youth movement. But I'd hardly say they were unprepared yesterday. That was a good football team that has hung with national powers the past couple seasons.

Again, you have a freshman QB under center. And where was this great field position? Conservatism is going to be the way until he has shown the ability to handle it. Sometimes you need to reign a young talent like that in, and that's what I saw.

Well with as many emotional retaliations as you've made in this thread, it's easy to mistake them for 'many tenderfoots'

I'm sorry, I will now remain completely emotionless when talking about my favorite team... Now I can be just like every one else (sigh)...

Now with the martyr act. :roll1: Seriously, stop. Or read up on some threads, there has been plenty of legitimate discussion of the problems. Either way, you'll probably stop posting for a while...

No actually I think I'll keep posting until someone can say something more inspiring than, "we were being conservative because TP was in the game and he's so fragile..." Please see all previous games this year, and the natnl champ game from last year, and see the same unsuccessful plan... still waiting

Nice job of putting words in my mouth champ. You continue to amaze. So just keep posting because I don't have the time nor the inclination to banter with somebody who fabricates arguments and continually stoops to namecalling. Or somebody who can't accept differing opinions. I've expressed my opinions on the playcalling all over this board, if that ain't good enough for you, frankly, I don't give a flying fuck.

I don't think the problem is with your opinion, it's with the tone of your post.. you made it sound like the coaches are completely incompetent and LordJeffBuck was not pleased. And your reply to him didn't help..

I've said similar things in this thread, as well as others, about playcalling. I'm not a fan of our playcalling this year at all. I personally would like to see us throw a few more, and throw some different routes in there. I'd also like to see us completely get rid of the reverses. I'd like to see us us Brandon Saine as a weapon, instead of a tailback.

But the thing is, I don't see the kids practice every day. If the team is having trouble executing the basic offense we've ran most of this year, trying to open up the playbook probably isn't going to be a good idea. I would LOVE to see this offense run the Troy Smith playbook, but we do have a true freshman running the team now. And we had a QB who was losing confidence on a game by game basis (sorry, Todd :(). You mentioned that as a flaw in an argument, but it's a reality. We have a true freshman QB. He's not fragile, but he is a true freshman. And we had a struggling QB. The playcalling is going to be fairly straightforward this year. When Pryor develops, I have this feeling that the team will be much different.

EDIT: Profanity doesn't make an argument childish. Children are usually punished for profanity, and adults aren't. So if anything, it makes it adultish.

"Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly." - JFK -

Here's some inspirational words that oddly fits this banter.

...Just a hunch here.... I bet that you are one of the so-called fans that likes to talk large about your beloved Buckeyes, and then has to take a lot of shit when "we" lose ... and instead of manning up, starts trashing the team and the coaching staff. Is that what you mean by "hype"?...
I think your hunch is spot on. I know the type far too well.

Point well taken....And I do agree with most of your points. But we have so many returning starters...this is not a new group. My observations hold true in the OHIO game as well. TP was not the starter, and we still had poor calling even for our veteran team.

I here you with the tone thing...but honestly, if you don't agree with the big bad secret decoder ring holders than you get jumped on...I don't need to spend 40 minutes looking up my opinion on various sites for support...it's my opinion.
