Game Thread Ohio State 20, Wisconsin 17 (Oct. 4)

the DL merely runs directly into the OL... and tries to 'outmuscle'... but no attempt to outmaneuver... the 300 lb Wisky lineman are not going to be outmuscled... if we don't blitz, we're in for more of the same...

Larimore is getting manhandled...

Games like this one are won in the trenches.

National Title games are won in the trenches......

Michigan won in the trenches last week against Wisconsin and got their ass handed to them today by Illinois.

There's a pattern there......

Is it just me or is Beckum's speed not there?

Yes, his athletisism (how the fuck do you spell that word anyway?) is sick, but he doesn't seem to be going long.

Either we adjust, assuming that the hamstring is still a problem...

Or maybe that's exactly what they want us to do...

Either way, I'm glad it's not my call.

IMO I think our offense just needs to hold on to the damn ball.

Plain and Simple :osu:

This is another problem. That fumble was horrible timing because OSU looked to be getting into good territory and then all of a sudden Wisky gets even more momentum.

Pryor needs to slow down and stop trying to do so much. He's still trying to get 60yds every play. I hope someone talks about this.

This is exactly what I was talking about holding back. 3rd and long with over a minute to go on the clock and we call a running play up the gut instead of going for the first down. Fast forward and Wisconsin drives down the field to go up by 3 (could've been 7) at half. We have to stop doing this. It's ridiculous. Whenever there's over a minute on the clock and the other team gets the ball after half, you try to drive down the field. You do not run the ball on 3rd and long, allowing them to come back and take the lead.

Now their O takes the field with the score in their favor.

The problem is Whisky is loading the box daring us to throw and TP being (the frosh that he is) is missing wide open receivers. We are getting pushed around on the D-Line and no push whatsoever on the QB. I saw a lot of zone blitz in the first half which is designed to take away the short pass over the middle.....

Face it right now we are being flat out being pushed around right now and we have to dig down deep and fight back...

Well we wanted Pryor to start and now we want Boeckman? I understand he brings some much needed passing to the offense, but Pryor has done ok here. The deep ball was dumb, Robo has his arm pinned on that other long bomb, Sanzo decides to go comakazi into 3 players at 175, and our defense can't get off the field?

Oh we're fine we just need to Run Chris Wells, and run Pryor till their damn wheels fall off. We had success and I feel it was still there. I mean the 2nd drive we're ripping 10 yards a run and yes lets pass the ball for an INT on 1st and 10. Pryor's the guy that should STAY in the game.

Bottom line is we wouldn't be having any issues if the defensive line could generate any type of pass/run rush. I can't wait till some new talent is infused into this group because we're just not getting it done what so ever.

The DL looked bad late in the half...but an 8+ minute drive then a quick TO will do that to you. They were getting after it early.

The DBs are getting beat...but the 3+ seconds of free running from the WRs and the scramble drills are hard to pin on a DB. Need pressure.

Offensively, what needs to be said? Everyone has annointed TP but reality says he will have learning moments every game. Right now, he is killing drives by trying to do toomuch on every snap. Some plays are doomed...take as small of a loss as possible and move on...forced throws and huge sacks lose ballgames.

Beanie needs the ball. He is better with another threat...same with Pryor.

Wisky is selling out defensively...some call it cheap, but I love it. That is football. Savage intensity. It is how this game is supposed to be played...unfortunately, we are on the receiving end right now.

This second half is a precipice for this team and for a number of players. Screw the star ratings, the hype, the "supposed to be" hyperbole. Strap it up tight and play fearlessly.

Otherwise, this season is about to be gone in a flash.

I had the same thought...something to get Wisky to slow down the pressure.

Honestly, judging from the way Boeckman has handled pressure since the PSU game last year, I can only imagine the blitz packages would be used more frequently, and perhaps with worse results for us. . . .
