Buckeyes take aim at 800th win

The third-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes go in search of the 800th victory in their storied history this Saturday when they welcome the Ohio University Bobcats to Columbus for a non-conference clash.
Ohio is 0-1 on the young season following a heartbreaking 21-20 loss at Wyoming in last week's opener. The Bobcats, who by contrast have amassed 485 wins all-time, kick off Mid-American Conference play next week with a home game against Central Michigan. Ohio hasn't started a season 0-2 since 2002, and the Bobcats have never beaten a ranked opponent (0-13).

Jim Tressel's Buckeyes came into the season ranked second in the country, and while they blanked Youngstown State in last week's lidlifter, 43-0, they dropped one spot in this week's AP poll. The slip wasn't the only negative to come out of last week's game as Heisman hopeful Chris Wells was injured and his status for this contest is questionable. This is the Buckeyes' final tune- up before heading west to take on top-ranked USC next weekend, so it may be in the team's best interest to keep the talented RB on the shelf this week. Following a home game against Troy, OSU begins Big Ten action against visiting Minnesota on September 27th.

I think TBDBITL has too much power in the Sousaphone section for the Marching 110 to hold the line on the inside plays. I also think the tOSU trumpets will be able to get yards outside by using a variety of formations that will cause uncertainty for the high-stepping Bobcat brass section ...

I would love to see that. I know many are down on Mo for not "living up to his potential", but the kid is a gamer and has stuck with this team when he could have transferred and been a premier back at another school.

Beanie Wells' mother reports Beanie has a toe injury (not turf toe) and says he expects to play against Ohio.....

The report on ESPNews said he expects to play, however the story says "He wouldn't want to sit a game and be rusty for USC."

I know it goes against JT's nature but I'd like to see the first team OL play more against OU. I think the reps would help with consistency and developing chemistry.Also, conditioning ..they will be needed for 4 qtr's against SC and it will be warm out there. Todd could use more reps also..

FWIW, Sanzenbacher will meet a former Toledo Central Catholic team mate on the field. I don't know where Eric Herman is on the depth chart for the Bobcats, but he is a very good player at 6' 4 265 DE.

Yeah, while you were asking the bartender to take it easy on your Junction Punch, I was the guy sitting on the barstool next you with a Quad glass full of Southern Comfort, pointing and laughing at you.

Ahhhh The J-Club. My all time fav. I remember in the summer of '91 Keith raised the price of top shelf mixed drinks to $2.00. For some reason you could still order a Beam Manhattan (up, thankyouverymuch) for $1.60. Damn... I have a lot of lost nights at the Junction.

One of my favs was the night of my 21st b-day. We stumble into the Junction (middle of summer) and Keith says, "what are you guys celebrating?" My friends say, "His birthday." Keith responds with, "you guys have been coming here for two years." We all replied with, "and you've been serving us for two years."

Love the Junction.

Note: I've known Keith to take people home after closing who had no business walking home. He's a damn good man. tOSU or OU fan alike... if ever in Athens, find your way to Court and Mill St. and make your way into the J-Club. It's a hell of a good time. Say Hi to the man at the end of the bar with the 'stache. His name is Keith. He owns the place and it's a damn fine place.

I've never heard of the Junction being called J-Club. I use and hear J-Bar a lot. Must be a generational thing.

ATHENS, Ohio -- It was the eve of Ohio University's season opener at Wyoming last week, and coach Frank Solich and assistant David Brown pulled Idris Lawrence aside for the best moment in his football life since Brookhaven won the Division II state championship in 2004. Lawrence, a redshirt junior from Brookhaven, was told he would start at cornerback.
Another player might have run through the halls of the hotel hollering and knocking on doors to tell teammates the good news.
That, however, is not how Lawrence goes about his business. He smiled and went on his way.
"I knew I had a terrific camp and that I earned my spot," Lawrence said. "They told me to keep the intensity up. I was excited, but I also realized how hard I had worked to get this job. Mark Parson and I woke up every morning at 7:30 and worked on our feet, worked on our movement. I wanted this badly."
Next up for Lawrence is facing all those tall Ohio State receivers such as 6-foot-3 Brian Robiskie and DeVier Posey and 6-2 Brian Hartline on Saturday in Ohio Stadium.
Lawrence is listed as 5-8, 166, but he might not even have those dimensions.
Solich said size is not a factor for Lawrence.
