Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

The pile of shit quoted above seems absolutely ridiculous to me. I sure hope that Phil Savage doesn't view the NFL draft with this same simplistic paint by numbers philosophy. Go ahead and spew some more worthless garbage about this stupid ass fantasy football computer geek point system. Sooner or later you may realize that it doesn't mean jack shit to anyone including most NFL GM's let alone the average NFL fan which is what the audience on this site happens to be.

:roll2: Yea, because so many other teams felt that Brady Quinn was worth a top-5 pick in any draft. It was an illustration of how ridiculously we overpaid -- no doubt we'd overpay by the points to move up... but overpay that much? Please god, nobody let Savage go to Vegas... ever... Lerner will be broke within 48 hours.

:slappy: You mean that injury-addled underperforming WR from oklahoma that didn't even make the roster until 2/3rds through the season?

Keep ignoring that high 2nd round pick. If we only traded next year's first -- you'd have an argument, I still wouldn't agree, but you'd at least have a point.

I 2nd that OSU_Buck. Stanton has always seemed like he had a great attitude to me. I'm sure you can find some frustrated moments on tape -- his team (esp defense) melted down time after time. But I think you'd be hardpressed to find Tate-like moments. I'm not sure Stanton will succeed in the NFL, but IMO he's just as good of a prospect as Quinn. He just didn't get the media love cuz he plays for MSU. Same goes for Beck.

Already been addressed, but they took Wright in the 2nd. I think it was the right spot for him to go -- but the fact that we traded back up with Dallas is hilarious.
Taking the media's #2 QB w/the 22nd pick was not desperation. Giving up 2 picks that will almost certainly be worth a top-5 draft pick to pick up a sliding QB 22nd overall IS desperation.

Am I missing something? Who is Drew Brees in this situation?

Dude, you gotta let go. As much as you have obsessed over this, I'm starting to think you have more of a man crush on Quinn than King does.

Nope, just very disappointed. I'm fine that he's on the team... I'm pissed off that they threw away the future of the franchise on a huge risk. Also frustrated that they're just down the road from one of the most succesful programs and completely fail to pick up any of their players year after year.
Instead picking up media favorites that, thus far, have been busts from scUM (south and north) and ND. Not to mention continuing to add character issue players to the locker room. Great.
And now people are claiming they're finally in it to win. Looks more like a desperate scramble to get media praise to me. If I'm wrong, I'll take the ribbing. I'm sure King will be more than happy to do so... but this just seems like more of the same to me. At least we got Thomas and Steinbach though. So there's hope in 2009/10 for me.

It seems that the Colts have figured it out.

If we asked 10 people what they thought of the deal, we'd get 10 different opinions. We don't know if it will pan out or not. But hey, for once, at least we're dancing...

Bingo. A guy like Yao could have been a huge UDFA or 7th round pick. I realize that I've got S&G glasses 24/7 -- but what does this McDonald kid in the 5th give us that Yao can't? And there was still some nice value at WR in the 5th. I don't care what any of the experts say, this was the year of the WR IMO... and they probably should have grabbed one on day 2.

I'm happy they got a decent QB prospect. I'm unhappy with what they gave up for him. Especially after the truth about Baltimore comes out.
Guys like King and Napoleon can fellate themselves to no end about how he was the best QB in this draft and better than any QB we'd get next year... but that's all nonsense. We have no idea what will be available next year. Did ANYONE last year predict Jamarcus Russel to be a top-5 can't-miss pick? Or guys like Woodley and Pos falling out of the 1st. I certainly never saw it...
Fact is, it's a huge risk. Gross mismanagement or ballsy -- all depends on your spin. But given this front office's history ... I'm not holding my breath.

Do people forget that Brady is a local kid who made it big?

I just don't get all of the hate.

The hype and praise that was heaped on him wasn't brought on by his grandstanding or cocky attitude.

It's OK to be happy for non-Buckeyes.

I think a lot of people see him as un-tested when it counts, I mean he never beat USC and he never won a bowl games, as I see it, that puts a big zero in the big games column. However, he did put together some great comebacks against UCLA and Michigan State, so the guy does know how to play.

It's hard to say how much his him, and how much is his other players/system he plays in. Personally, I think the guy will do well, he's got a good attitude and a decent arm. So give him a couple years and see what happens.

As a San Diego fan, I have come to learn you need to have faith in your teams management, otherwise you'll be dissapointed in every pick they make, just sit back, have some faith and hope for the best.

No doubt it was a risk. I just saying lets give the kid and few snaps and back him like we would any other Brown. If he sucks in 2 years, then we'll trash him.

You hear what dungy said about grabbing so many buckeye? It was to the effect of they are winners, good attitudes, good work ethic.. the kind of guys i want to bring into the locker room. we bring in winslow, braylon, and wright? all attitude problems.. hope they get it together braylon said this will be his year, winslows attitude hasn't been bad since he arrived, and gotta give wright a chance

All I know is that I'm probably going to be cringing a year from now when we've got a very high pick and a kid like McFadden is out there. (Nothing against Quinn -- but I can't see him helping us win this year. I think he'll have a bigger impact in 2008.)
Obviously Lewis is nothing but a stopgap, and I really thought we needed to get a 2nd RB somewhere in this draft or FA as a compliment. Unless of course Harrison is gonna step up (which I'd enjoy -- cuz I really liked that pick a lot last year.)

Don't put words in my mouth. You're the one overreacting. You think this pick puts the entire future of the franchise at risk? What future? What did we have to lose by making this pick? You act as though Savage is putting the entire weight of the Browns organization on the shoulders of Quinn. If he doesn't succeed, well then that's just the way it works. We woouldn't be the first high draft pick from the Browns to fail and he certainly wouldn't be the last.

You can get over this drama queen act of yours. I never said Quinn was the best quarterback in this draft and next. I said if we were going to take a QB this year, I'd take Quinn, and if we were going to take one either year, Brohm was the only one from next year who I think would be better than Quinn. Don't twist what I say to fit your argument.

You need to get over your hate of Quinn and just have faith Savage and the coaches made a good move. You're saying your not going to judge him yet and give him a chance, but that doesn't appear to be the case. You've pretty much already conceded the future of the franchise it seems.

Just give it a freaking rest.

I know you hate Quinn because you're trying to make the argument that guys like Drew Stanton and John David Booty are better prospects than him. If you're going to criticize the pick, do it honestly and admit you hate the pick because you hate Quinn.
