Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

Just for a quick referance, that 2nd round pick was worth 540 points. The 1st round pick obviously varies...

#5 overall 1700+540 = 2240 equivalent to the 3rd overall pick
#10 overall 1300+540 = 1840 equivalent to the 4th overall pick
#12 overall 1200+540 = 1740 equivalent to the 5th overall pick
#15 overall 1050+540 = 1590 equivalent to the 6th overall pick

Hmmm... on the surface alone, we just paid the equivalent of a #6 pick to get the 22nd pick in the draft. That's gross mismanagement.

The pile of shit quoted above seems absolutely ridiculous to me. I sure hope that Phil Savage doesn't view the NFL draft with this same simplistic paint by numbers philosophy. Go ahead and spew some more worthless garbage about this stupid ass fantasy football computer geek point system. Sooner or later you may realize that it doesn't mean jack shit to anyone including most NFL GM's let alone the average NFL fan which is what the audience on this site happens to be.

Someone give this a GPA please. Well said.

I'm not going to read through this entire mess, but:

The Browns feel that they got the best OL, best CB, and maybe best QB in draft, FWIW.

Just compare the top three picks from the 2007 draft (Thomas, Quinn, Wright) with the top three from the 2005 draft (Edwards, Pool, Frye). No comparison. Thomas, Quinn, and Wright should be cornerstones of the franchise for the next decade, while Frye and Pool are career back-ups and borderline busts, and Braylon is a major head case. If the 2007 draft doesn't turn the Browns around, then nothing will.

What I want to get to the bottom of, is who was that blond consoling the heartbroken Brady all day long?

Well I am sure you already know by now but in case you aren't joking it is his long time girlfriend. I guess they played soccer together growing up in Dublin and they are high school sweethearts. She gets my vote. She knew and loved him before he was a Domer and now before he was rich. Simply put:

I think the jury is still out on Brodney, but you are right, there is no comparison. This is by far the best draft that we have had since they returned to the league in 1999. I know the thing that is in the back of the minds of all Browns fans, and don't say it. Let's not do anything to jinx this team, things are looking good right now, FINALLY.

That pile of shit is the standard NFL draft point value chart of which every league GM has a well-worn copy; that's not from fantasy football, it's the real thing. IMO Cleveland did well with the trade because of the contract money they save on what they clearly felt was a top-10 caliber QB, but "by the book" they did overspend in terms of draft position. Savage is definitely hoping Cleveland does well enough to send away a mid-20s 1st-rounder next year.

What I am saying is that the staying pat mold that the Browns have followed for drafting the past 7 drafts isn't working. Sometimes you have to take a risk, and in this case, to me, the "points" aren't worth a shit here. Would you have rather them keep their pick and maybe draft Chad Henne next year or someone with less of a skill set? This team needs a QB and they need one today, not next year. The fan base is sick of losing and they want to see this team put a quality product on the field this year and win some games and that is the mentality that Savage/Crennel went into this draft with. Who can help us TODAY. I personally, could not agree more with it.

And what I'm saying is that Brady darn well better help the Browns start winning TODAY, or that trade (whose by-the-book value cannot be measured until next year's draft) will turn out to be an uneven one.

Agreed that the value chart is not a joke, but according to that Randy Moss is worth 74 points (or at least getting rid of his pain in the ass attitude is worth 74 points). Obviously, this trade wasn't about pick value for pick value as the Browns were trading for Quinn and not the #22 pick. Baltimore would have moved up to 23 and taken him. I've seen others mention that Baltimore would not have given up "as much" but remember that they had a 1st round pick this year to give, the Browns did not. Right now, the merits of this trade rest on the right arm of Brady and not some value chart.
