Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

What are you guys going to do when the Browns play the ravens and Troy is their QB?
and he beats the Browns???? what then? muaaaahahahahahaha
Considering that we're in the same division. I'm going to go ahead and predict that in Troy and Brady's long careers, Troy will beat the Browns and Brady will beat the Ravens.

As happy as I am with the Browns draft I am equally disappointed in their undrafted free-agent signings to this point. I am ok with signing the RB from Miami, Moss but now they are going to sign former SCum RB Jerome Jackson. Come on guys there are plenty of better players available. Now they also signed this guy receiver Willy Idlette = punt returner and a linebacker from vandy. :roll1: Meanwhile they missed out on the chance to get Mike Jones OL from Iowa.

McClelland: Draft is victory for Browns fans

By Sean McClelland
the Dayton Daily News

Tuesday, May 01, 2007
When Cleveland Browns General Manager Phil Savage reported for work Saturday morning, he stood at the helm of an almost irrelevant NFL franchise. He might as well have been running the Cincinnati Bengals of the 1990s or the Arizona Cardinals.
A few hours and a couple of draft picks later, all that changed.

Media praise energy jolt for Browns

By George M. Thomas

By all accounts the Browns did well in this past weekend's NFL Draft by getting two players -- Joe Thomas and Brady Quinn -- ranked in their top five and many experts and television analysts have heaped praise on them for climbing back into the first round to get Quinn.
And, of course, the Monday morning quarterbacks have come out, as well. Among them: ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper who questions whether the price was too steep (this year's second-round choice and next year's first-rounder).

Savage: Quinn no Boller
Tuesday, May 1, 2007

BEREA What is a Mobilian?

Phil Savage and JaMarcus Russell both hail from Mobile, Ala. They don't have to ask.

That's also where they met in 1999, at a football camp called Camp Savage.

Watching the teen marvel Russell was worth the price of admission, but only so to speak. At Camp Savage, kids sweat free.

Patience used to draft Quinn as important with playing him this year

The Browns did not rush to draft Brady Quinn in the first round of the draft Saturday, but they got him late in the first round because they patiently plotted their course.

Now that his name is on the back of a Browns jersey, they should use the same patience before playing him.

theismann just ripped apart brady quinn and his handlers for brady's appearance at the draft. theismann cited brady's chewing bubblegum, disheveled and greasy hair, and poorly tied tie. he really went on with how unprofessional brady looked during the draft. it wasn't just a passing statement. i rather enjoyed it because theismann spoke the truth. as far as how much, if at all, brady's appearance actually mattered on saturday, i don't know. i don't see his marketing value decreasing all that much.

Do people forget that Brady is a local kid who made it big?

I just don't get all of the hate.

The hype and praise that was heaped on him wasn't brought on by his grandstanding or cocky attitude.

It's OK to be happy for non-Buckeyes.

Hyperbole anyone? Can we let them play one damned down before we annoint them? Or how about letting them sign a contract?

These two could be Gallery and Boller as much as Ogden and Montana.

i'm happy for brady. i think it's great, too, that he has done extremely well for himself. it's the hype engine that bothers most of us. nonetheless, his appearance was rather shabby on saturday. as i stated, though, none of this likely affects his marketing value.

remember, if we didn't make comments about the superficial here on bp, there would probably be a fifth as many posts.

no we dont

travis wilson 3rd round 2006 says hi

:slappy: You mean that injury-addled underperforming WR from oklahoma that didn't even make the roster until 2/3rds through the season?

psst heres a secret, the team was going to suck this year anyway and tank until romeo got fired.

a good RB isn't hard to find (look at all the guys that switched teams this year) bentley is done though, although we just gave fraley an extension

the defensive line is still poor but our CBs are solid now with wright and a young pair of safeties. LBs are very young with a lot of upside.

phil realized that we would be drafting a QB in the first next year and took quinn at 22 (amazing value + we don't have to pay him top 5 $$$).

quinn is better than any QB coming out next year, phil made the right choice.

Keep ignoring that high 2nd round pick. If we only traded next year's first -- you'd have an argument, I still wouldn't agree, but you'd at least have a point.

Stanton, I hope you are kidding. I would not want a young QB on my team with the kind of immaturity issues that he has. He has skills, but his head is a mess. He had so many on the field meltdowns, it was comical to me being a tOSU fan. He will not succeed in the NFL with that kind of mentality.

OSU_Buckguy;825261; said:
are you talking about drew stanton or drew tate?

I 2nd that OSU_Buck. Stanton has always seemed like he had a great attitude to me. I'm sure you can find some frustrated moments on tape -- his team (esp defense) melted down time after time. But I think you'd be hardpressed to find Tate-like moments. I'm not sure Stanton will succeed in the NFL, but IMO he's just as good of a prospect as Quinn. He just didn't get the media love cuz he plays for MSU. Same goes for Beck.

Taking the #2 QB in the draft is not desperation, given the current quarterbacks on their roster....it is a no brainer in my opinion. They didn't reach for Wright, he was a projected second round pick, they took him in the third round. I think they addressed the secondary taking two corners, fill in the defensive line with a few FA and they will be greatly improved.

After years of bad picks, how can any fan of the Browns complain? I am amazed some people are critical of their draft......

Already been addressed, but they took Wright in the 2nd. I think it was the right spot for him to go -- but the fact that we traded back up with Dallas is hilarious.
Taking the media's #2 QB w/the 22nd pick was not desperation. Giving up 2 picks that will almost certainly be worth a top-5 draft pick to pick up a sliding QB 22nd overall IS desperation.

I know that alot of people are unhappy with the trade, but I like what the Browns did with their draft. Best OL. Best CB. Just about everyone's second QB prospect. Two big DEs to go with our 3-4...hopefully adding depth to the D-line. Let's just hope that this translates to wins. Hopefully with Brady Quinn on the team we can have a Drew Brees/Philip Rivers type of QB situation.

Am I missing something? Who is Drew Brees in this situation?
