Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

I know he's not supposed to miss time this year, but you're dumber than you keep trying to imply I am if you think surgery isn't going to affect him at all.
So because there is a list of other Browns' picks that are quintessential busts, Winslow isn't. Yea he got injured on the field the first time -- but he also took himself out the second. So we both ignore some facts to strengthen our arguments... doesn't change the one I keep repeating and the one you have no answer to: 3 years, only 1 where he contributed.
I agree, potential wise, he is a premiere TE. But it's not a reality until he does it. And he hasn't yet.

Dude come on. You must be a truly miserable individual. Why don't you try laying down the torch you are obviously carrying against the Browns. I can't even tell if you are a Browns fan or not. If you want to make a living out of hating the Browns it would probably work out better for you to start rooting for the Steelers or some other team. Go ahead and wash your hands of the Browns entirely. Go root for Troy in Baltimore. Start waving a terrible towel on Sundays. Start rooting for the Indianapolis Buckeyes.

You can't can you? The Browns are in your blood and like everyone else it pains you to see them struggle. Try a new strategy. Root for the uniform and whoever happens to be wearing it. We are a long way from finding out at what spot the Browns would have even been picking in 2008 and who would have even been available to them at that spot. McFadden, or flip a coin on whoever else you may have wanted, might not even have been an option when it all plays out. At this point in time I have a hard time seeing the 2008 draft having any QB options that trump what the Browns already have with Brady Quinn and he'll already have a season of experience under his belt. If you can think of someone please point them out. Spare yourself the embarrassment and don't say Charlie Frye.

Life is too short. I'm sure glad that I'm not you because I wouldn't want to have to spend this coming NFL season rooting against seeing Brady Quinn and the Browns having any success next year just so I could come back here to Buckeyeplanet and say I told you so in this thread which is what I'm sure you would do. Torches are hard to lay down aren't they.

As a Browns fan, silver linings are hard to come by most of the time. If you could only lay down the torch you might notice that this could be the beginning of a more positive time for the Browns franchise and all its fans. These times are few and far between so you might not want to miss this one. Christ sakes, from your quote above it sounds as if you want Winslow to be hurt and unable to perform this year. That is something that I would expect from a Steelers fan. Not a Browns fan.

Go Browns!!!!!

I am not denying he f'd himself up the second time. He did, it was moronic and at the time I wanted the Browns to invoke the clause in his contract about riding a motorcycle and void his contract and cut him I was so pissed. I am glad they didn't. Being hurt does not make you a bust. Under performing on the field makes you a bust. The other guys I mentioned were busts on the field, aside from Couch, which I believe you will never be able to truly tell what his potential was because of the shit team around him, but that is a different argument we can have. You can not prove to me or anyone else that he has been a bust on the field. His one full year on the field shows what he will be able to do, and with an improved offense, I have no doubt he will be known as a premier TE if he isn't already.

Guys seriously....

Evil Knevil is still on the team....the guy's got some talent but with a bad decision here and some bad luck there, he just hasn't gotten the job done yet.

I'm going to give them all, Quinn included, a chance. There's really no other option at this point.

I disagree with not gotten the job done. I think this past season was phenomenal for a skill player on that team. You can't doubt his desire to make plays and win, the guy leaves it all out on the field. You are right, he could make another bad decision and eff himself up again on a motorcycle, or hang glider or God knows what. Same could be said of any NFL player though. Part of what Browns fans need to get over is the What Ifs and the negativity.

I was with you until that. I could care less about coming back and saying "I told you so" -- esp in such a negative aspect. If I wanted to do that, I'd go back to the NCG threads every day. As it is, you won't find me say much of anything about that.
I am disappointed because IMO this was a huge risk. They have laid the next couple of years of a franchise down on who I perceive to be the media's baby. I've said it a million times, there is nothing on the field that anyone can say about Brady Quinn to show he's got any more potential than various QBs that went in the 2nd.
Not one person has tried to step up to that plate and justify it. The only justification people have come up with is that it was ballsy and a time to change "draft tactics." That's all spin and no substance.
Brady Quinn is a solid QB prospect, and I'm glad they went after him. But, and I'll say it again, they overspent and got hoodwinked. I feel like a broken record, and all you nitwits can come up with is "well you must hate Brady Quinn". You're all beginning to sound like unreasonable ND fans. Please, qq some more.

Quick question....
looking into next year with currently no first round draft pick for the Browns in 2008, what QB would be coming up for that draft that you would like the Browns to pick up for a possible "franchise guy"?
I know a down has not been played in the 2008 season but current prospects if any?
Then, do you think they would be better than BQ?
Edit: I have not made up my mind on the Quinn aquisition for the 22nd.

Considering some of the RBs that will probably be coming out next year, I was actually hoping to get a stud RB to be the face of the franchise (ala LT) in the draft.

But that's just me.....

Considering that I think Brady Quinn has the same potential as Drew Stanton and Beck, it goes without saying that I think there would be another good QB to be had in the draft next year. Did anybody predict a year ago that Jamarcus would become such a big QB prospect? Nope.
But for the sake of throwing out some names... in alphabetical order and off the top of my head (and yes, some of them are juniors)... Ainge, Booty, Brennan, Brohm ... and yea, I don't really feel like getting to the Cs.
Contrary to popular belief/propgandists/apologists there was also no guarantee that we needed to go QB next year either. Which brings me to...

2nd'd. Next on the docket, IMO, is a dominant RB. I'd rather have one of those than one of the top-2 QB prospects any year.
A dominant RB + a TE that can stretch the field, a flashy WR like Edwards, and a competent line could make any QB's job a lot easier. Then let Crennel do what he does best and build a dominant D.

HEY! I've got an idea. Maybe we dish Braylon and a 2nd rounder next year for someone else's 1st so we can draft that top end RB.

Anyone else second this? Shuit...then we'd need another WR. I hate thinking we can use Edwards and his piss poor attitude. I've accepted the Soulja, now...what will it take for me to be okay with BE?

If he hadn't ditched a meeting to go to The Game and/or not dropped potential game-winning TD passes against the Steelers... that would've done it for me.
If we wanted a WR though, this was the year to grab one. Guys like Allison and Baker were going on day 2. I don't think we'll see that next year.
I think we'll probably have to keep buying mercenary FA RBs the next couple of years. Maybe they can snipe a good sleeper on day 2 draft next year or Harrison pans out ... but I'm not holding my breath.

I like that they drafted with this season in mind. They didn't draft people thinking, well if we draft this guy this year, we can draft this guy potentially next year, blah, blah, blah. If Lewis runs well this year, who's to say we don't re-sign him? If he doesn't or we don't there will be other guys to be had as FA's or trade possibilities. Off the top of my head, Michael Turner from San Diego. He is an unrestricted FA next year and is a stud in waiting, also what about Chester Taylor? He is a proven 1,000 yard rusher. Do you think the Vikings plan on keeping both him and AD for the long term? I doubt it. You can't have tunnel vision when running an NFL team and think that only the draft can solve your needs. Not having a 1st Round pick next year is not going to kill this team. They just basically used it this year to get Quinn. I don't believe any of those other QB's you mentioned coming out next year have or will have any more potential.
