Well, I've had time to think about it, so here it is for me.
I fucking loved today. I didn't want Quinn with the third pick. I wanted Thomas, and I wanted him bad. Just getting him made the day a good day, but it didn't change the fact that we still needed a quarterback, a cornerback, and defensive line help.
And then Savage said, "The hell with it," grabbed his sac, and pulled off the trade. I know that some feel we paid to steep a price. Yes, the price was indeed high, but I think it was worth it. I'm not expecting this team to make the playoffs next year, but I do expect them to actually start giving a shit. It looks like they now are. An offense with Quinn, Thomas, Winslow, Edwards, Steinbach, Lewis, and (please?) Bentley someday is a damn good offense. Personally, I'm sick and tired of looking forward to the next draft before the current one is even over.
During the second round, a buddy of mine who is a Dallas fan called me. We were discussing who the Cowboys were going to take when the "Trade" sign started flashing. When I saw it was the Browns, I immediately said, "It looks like Savage wants a corner." Here's the thing with that. In 2006, we basically played without our top three corners for the year. We couldn't cover anybody. Wright will probably start the season in the rotation, and I wouldn't be surprised if he cracks the starting lineup by the end of the year, whether it's due to injury or if he earns it. Make no mistake, our corners were horrible. Hell, Brodney Pool started there against Carolina.
So I sit back and think, "Damn. We finally said, 'Fuck it.' We made a statement." Will it pan out? I think so. Then again, all three could end up being busts, but I doubt it.
I'm happy as hell with the first day of the draft, and it's been a long time since I could say that about the Browns.
