Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

I don't understand a lot of the animosity and negativism against BQ. Sure he played for ND, so what. Sure he didn't come to tOSU, maybe Zwick had something to do with that.
Well he doesn't play for ND now and he is at the very least a pretty good QB. So lighten up and give the kid from Ohio a chance.
Who knows he may be just what the brownies have been looking for.
Someone from the Dawg pound needs to throw this kid a bone

Listen, I enjoy a spirited debate but this thread is about the Cleveland Browns draft and not about Brady vs Henne....

In my opinion they merely drafted their franchise QB a year early. They would have taken that pick next year and used it on a QB most likely.....I think it is a good deal and at least it gives Browns fans hope they are starting to give a shit about winning.

You're forgetting that other top-40 pick we gave up for it. OVERPAID. Fine, we got a solid QB prospect. But we just gave up what should have been another starter for him. Effin great. Crennel is as good as gone right now.
Building through FA isn't going to get this team anywhere, it's just going to keep them afloat (and barely that). You ALWAYS overpay for FAs, and often times once they have their fat contract they've got nothing left to prove.
I'm mad because we overpaid insanely -- not because we got Quinn. I berate Quinn only when people insinuate that he's actually worth both a top-15 and top-40 overall. He's not. He was worth the 22nd overall. Dallas took us to the bank and is laughing all the way home.

Not as much as the Brownies would have at #3... I think to get Thomas early, and get BQ - who they wanted anyway - at 22 is a pretty good first round. He was the clear #2 QB behind Russell who is a FREAK.

I still want TSmith to be a Brown

Well I was thrilled with the draft until this trade. Now I just don't care. It's even more of a joke after we traded back up with Dallas to get Wright, who -- though having amazing talent -- doesn't leave me with a good feeling either.
I could have lived with next years 1st -- maybe even that and another pick or 2 on day 2 (afterall, Dallas wouldn't get any benefit until a year later... so there should be some compensation) -- but next year's 1st and a very early 2nd? Ridiculous.
I'd love to play a game of poker with Mr. Savage. He's obviously no good at it.

Saying we overpaid insanely is a gross overstatement. We used two firsts and a second to get our franchise Left Tackle and our franchise QB. That's a pretty good deal. Would I have preferred to keep the second round pick? Yeah, but you very rarely get to pick the best QB in the draft at number 22 overall. It was a good decision.

Just for a quick referance, that 2nd round pick was worth 540 points. The 1st round pick obviously varies...

#5 overall 1700+540 = 2240 equivalent to the 3rd overall pick
#10 overall 1300+540 = 1840 equivalent to the 4th overall pick
#12 overall 1200+540 = 1740 equivalent to the 5th overall pick
#15 overall 1050+540 = 1590 equivalent to the 6th overall pick

Hmmm... on the surface alone, we just paid the equivalent of a #6 pick to get the 22nd pick in the draft. That's gross mismanagement.

:slappy: Tell that to Miami lmfao.

Quinn wasn't the best qb in the draft though. There really wasn't that much of a difference between Beck, Edwards, Quinn, and Russell. You could have gotten Beck in the second without losing anything.

And Stanton -- him and Beck were my favorites (other than Troy of course  )

Quinn is better than any QB coming out next year, be it Brohm, Henne, Brennan, or Booty. Phil just made next years pick this year.

So who is going to be the RB next year?

And what if LeCharles Bentley can't come back?

Or if the Defense still needs 8 NFL caliber players?

This was probably the worst move Phil could've made.

Next Year's RB class is going to be very deep, too deep to be giving up your first rounder.

As a lifelong Browns fan I am very happy with the picks yesterday. Thomas has the right attitude, now he just needs to get in the weight room. Plus, his pick just solidifies an already improved line especially after Schaffer (sp?) moves to the right side.

Quinn has a huge chip on his shoulder and wants to prove many people wrong. No matter how much we all despise ND he did play several years under Weis and was in one of the most pressure-packed programs in the nation. He was surrounded by a pretty weak supporting cast at ND too. Plus, HE WANTS TO BE A BROWN!!!

Wright is a reach, but better than the other options that would have been available later. I would still like another CB and a huge D tackle, but there are just too many holes to fill.

What I like most about the first two picks is I expect them to be character guys who just want to win. Hopefully they will rub off on Braylon.

And to those who complain about giving up next year's first round pick, #@!* that! This trade proves to me the owner, office and coach want to win and win immediately. I would rather trade what is hopefully a mid-first round pick next year for who knows what QBs for Quinn now. I'll make that trade any day of the week. If we end up giving up the first overall pick next year I still would pull the trigger.

C'mon skidoo - they definitely overpaid - whether Browns fans want to accept that or no. And, qualitatively it was a huge overpayment. Ballsy in fact.

The value of the #22 1st round pick they acquired was 780 points.

For which they gave up the 2008 #1 pick say it is Rd1 (8), a realistic proposition, that is 1400 points, plus those 540 points for the 2007 #4 Round 2 pick. Total of 1940 points.
Less the value of the #22 pick, leaves 1160 points - the value of a lucky 1st round #13 pick.

The defense here should never be that it was not overpaid, but that it was ballsy.
