Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

Yes that and the fact that Cleveland has a history of players with injury problems. Those 2 things combined just seems like a really bad combination. I could go with Thomas or CJ would be my first 2 choices for our #1 pick.
I would suggest that a lot of Cleveland's player injuries are due to the physical shape of the players FWIW

You could be right but why would Cleveland be the only NFL team that would allow their players to be out of shape or more prone to injury? I don't know but that is hard to believe if true.

Quinn just one of Browns' draft options

A QB would be the most likely choice, but there are good arguments for filling other positions.

BEREA ? True enough, the hue and cry to select a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick in next weekend's NFL draft has reached Cleveland Browns General Manager Phil Savage.
He even heard it from some United Way staffers this week.

"One guy said if we didn't draft a quarterback, he was dropping his season tickets," Savage said Tuesday at his pre-draft press conference.
Of the consensus top five players available, two are QBs: JaMarcus Russell from LSU and Brady Quinn from Notre Dame. So there's a decent chance one will be on the board when the Browns are on the clock in 10 days.

Savage provides no clues about Browns' plans

Quarterback or running back? Offensive tackle or wide receiver?
One of those four positions will fill the Browns' first pick in the April 28 NFL draft.
But in his last public comments before the draft today, General Manager Phil Savage deftly avoided tipping his hand on what he will do with the selection.
Savage continued to state the themes he has been delivering for over a month -- that he would be happy with any of the consensus top five-ranked players in the draft, that he would be open to trading up or trading down, and that he would be OK with not adding a quarterback to compete against Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson.

Browns eyeing Fab Five with No. 3 pick

4/17/2007, 8:02 p.m. EDTBy TOM WITHERS
The Associated Press BEREA, Ohio (AP) ? Dressed in a dark sport coat with "BROWNS" inscribed on the right breast pocket, Cleveland general manager Phil Savage kept his plans for the upcoming NFL draft close to the metaphorical vest. Seated at a poker table, Savage would be a tough guy to read.
Preparing for his third ? and most vital ? draft as Cleveland's GM, Savage revealed little about what he might do with the No. 3 overall pick. During a 1-hour, 20-minute news conference, Savage was careful not to tip his hand.
Will the Browns trade up? Possibly.

Odds are the pick is Quinn, and he can't plug all the Browns' holes

BEREA Talk to Phil Savage any day of the year, and the Browns general manager is as honest as Opie Taylor. What you see is what you get.

Except one day.

Every year.

That day was Tuesday.

Savage held his third annual predraft press conference. And this is not to say that Savage was dishonest. He wasn't. That is not his nature.

Some musings of a cryptic Browns GM
Wednesday, April 18, 2007
By Steve Doerschuk
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

BEREA The draft is getting serious when a general manager starts quoting Shakespeare.

"Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown," Phil Savage said Tuesday, borrowing from Henry IV. Was he talking about life as the man making Cleveland's No. 3 pick? Or about the scrutiny under which that player will live? He wants you to guess all the way to April 28.

Savage was in a playful mood after a press conference in which he repeated last week's position: If the Browns don't trade out of the No. 3 pick, they will select either JaMarcus Russell, Calvin Johnson, Brady Quinn, Adrian Peterson or Joe Thomas.
