Trading down

It's risky, difficult and, obviously, imperfect. Jobs are at stake and decisions are made that can affect a team for years. Will the Browns make the right choice?
Sunday, April 15, 2007Tony Grossi
Plain Dealer Reporter
n April 28, the Browns will be in a familiar position - picking high in the first round of the NFL draft.
Barring a trade, they will pick third overall. They drafted third in 2005, third in 2001, first in 2000 and first in 1999. They also picked sixth in 2004.

Will Browns finally look to corner market on DBs?
Monday, April 16, 2007
By Steve Doerschuk
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

BEREA Who?s the hot corner in Cleveland? In relation to NFL drafts, absolutely no one.

The Browns? highest-drafted cornerbacks in the expansion era were:

? Daylon McCutcheon, Round 3 (No. 62), 1999.

? Lew Sanders, Round 4 (No. 95), 2000.

? Anthony Henry, Round 4 (No. 97), 2001.

? Antonio Perkins, Round 4 (No. 103), 2005.

Wilson too fast to ignore?
Monday, April 16, 2007

BEREA Josh Wilson is too short to thrill the Browns, but there may come a point in the draft when they think he is too fast to pass up.

The Maryland cornerback could drop to Round 3 because he is only 5-foot-9.

At the NFL Combine, he said he ran a 40 in 4.25 seconds. If he?s that fast, he could drive into the upper part of Round 2.

Wilson comes off as one of the more intelligent, engaging personalities among cornerbacks likely to be high picks.

From Peter King...

2. Running back Adrian Peterson (

) wants to be a Brown. So does Quinn. I met both of them the other day in New York, where they were promoting the Sprint draft phone. (How bizarre. You can get a cellular telephone and watch the draft on it.) Anyway, I asked Peterson: Got a gut feeling where you're going to get picked? Now, when you ask most guys this question, they've been well-schooled in not favoring one team over another. Said Peterson: "My gut feeling? Cleveland at three. Sitting down with them [coach Romeo Crennel, GM Phil Savage], I get the feeling they're very, very interested. I would love it there. The fans in Cleveland are the closest to college fans in the NFL. I love the Dawg Pound. I think I can be a franchise back and really help the Browns turn it around.''

Please draft this kid Phil.

I hope these kids are sincere that say they want to come to Cleveland. I am skeptical because in the case of AD, if he is not picked at 3 by the Browns he is looking at a potential free-fall of Leinart proportions, the next viable team to pick him would be Texas at 10. That is a lot of money lost between 3 and 10. Same with BQ. If he is not picked by the Browns at 3 he is looking at falling to at least 7 or 9. No one wants to experience that. Especially if they are in attendance. The camera on them every 2 minutes, people start clowning them in the audience and on TV. I'm sure they have all had in that nightmare.

My sentiments exactly... we passed on a franchise all-pro RB once in LT, don't make the same mistake again. He has stud written all over him if he can stay healthy (the Browns have to have a pick that stays healthy at some point right?)

AP to the Browns at 3... Bring home some talent Phil

I still like Joe Thomas. I do like AD and you can't dismiss the incredible talent of Calvin Johnson either, the kid is going to be a real special player in the NFL. WR is not a huge need for us, but does talent like this come along every year? I guarantee there will be other good yound RB like AD next year's draft (slaton, mcfadden, rice, etc) they may not be the caliber of AD (although his injury issues scare me) but when will there be another CJ?

Agreed, great point.

Does Peterson's injury issues concern others like they do me? He had injury problems in high school and he only had 1 injury free season at Oklahoma (freshman season).
Yes that and the fact that Cleveland has a history of players with injury problems. Those 2 things combined just seems like a really bad combination. I could go with Thomas or CJ would be my first 2 choices for our #1 pick.
