Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

tsteele316;808377; said:
there is a rumor floating about on the OBR that Cleveland and Atlanta are already talking trade should Calvin Johnson still be on the board at #3. Cleveland thinks that at least one of the 3 guys they have targeted, should the above scenario play out, will be on the board at #8.
If that's true, then that would be great, but I'm interested to see who the three players they have "targeted",it would be nice to see Micheal Jenkins in a Browns uniform, but after that,I'm clueless,Grady Jackson would be huge, and maybe if we could steal Johnathan Babineaux to play end.

As far as pick #8 I'm still for trading down but if we don't,Levi Brown would be a great pick for us

it means they have 3 guys targeted with the #8 pick, not 3 atlanta players.

of the 3 guys at #8, i would guess AP, BQ and Branch/Okoye or even Carriker.

D-line drafting rates 'F'

BEREA Much is made of the Browns' negligence in drafting offensive lineman.

Fair enough. The team has invested two first-day picks in eight drafts, a pair of centers - Melvin Fowler and Jeff Faine - now playing elsewhere. The expansion-era grade for importing young blockers is a solid "F."

Seldom scrutinized is the team's defensive line drafting, which, if not more derelict than on the other side of the trenches, has arguably yielded even worse results.

Courtney Brown and Gerard Warren were top-three overall picks in 2000 and 2001. Sad stories, both.

F- would be more appropriate for their O-Line draft picks. I am grasping to the hope that our talent evaluators are better now than in the Bitch Davis era. Mostly because Butchy has nothing to do with it any longer. I would love to see the Brownies take Thomas, I would love to see them end up with Joe Staley as well. He could end up being the better of the two when it is all said and done. His stock has been shooting up over the last month. I said it many times before and I must say it again, JUST DON'T DRAFT BRADY QUINN!!!!!!!!

It hasn nothing to do with him being a Domer (at least is shouldn't for Browns fans).

I hated it as much as the next guy when they picked KWII and then drafted Braylon Edwards. I still say that Braylon Edwards sucks, but he was a difference maker in college so you had to take him. KWII, however, has shown that he can be a legitimate offensive threat when healthy. I have no problem at this point with either of those picks (even though I said that the Browns were making it more and more difficult to root for them because of who they were drafting).

Brady Quinn, however, has shown nothing in college. He beat inferior teams and had some great coaching. But when it came time to put the team on his back and show something he folded. His accuracy was always a question and his decision making is suspect at best. Who can't throw a jump ball to Jeff Samardzija?

Did anyone ever watch Brady Quinn in a big game (even a loss, but weren't they all?) and say "Wow, that guy has something special!"

I would refuse to cheer for a bermuda triangle of Quinn, Braylon and KW2 on offense. I hated Jamal Lewis too, but I can tolerate him for a year if it is to help AD ease into the league. The Browns recent history of drafting/signing players I can't stand is very disturbing to me.

Weis: Browns, Quinn would be good marriage

Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis wants the Browns to have Brady Quinn and Brady Quinn to have the Browns.
Why? Because he wants his good friends Romeo Crennel and Phil Savage to succeed -- and his star quarterback to fulfill his dream of leading his favorite team to a championship.
"It's a match made in heaven," Weis said Thursday by phone. "What more can you ask for? It seems to me to make too much sense. Hopefully, common sense will prevail and they'll draft him."
Weis stressed that the most important thing about Quinn, a native of Dublin, Ohio, is that he grew up a diehard fan with a lifelong dream to play for the Browns.
"You can't pick a guy just because he's always rooted for your team, but Brady has everything it takes to be a franchise quarterback for a long time -- and he loves the Browns," said Weis. "He's as passionate about the team as the fans are -- and I've experienced the Dawg Pound, so I know."

Savage has his five, but there's more

BEREA As what Phil Savage calls "the silly season'' races to its serious conclusion, is the Browns' GM getting more specific or more slippery?

For the first time in public, Savage declared Thursday that the Browns - if they stay at the No. 3 spot in the draft - will pick Jamarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, Adrian Peterson, Joe Thomas or Calvin Johnson.

But Savage is saying he'd consider trading up for a "player we feel can really make a difference.'' He leaves open a wide range of options for trading down, declaring there are "10 to 15 players we'd feel real good about being our first-round pick.''
