Official BCS-CG Bulletin Board Thread

LSU Tigers! The Tigers barely beat $43 Alabama, who just lost to #82 UL Monroe. LSU lost to #18 Arkansas and #30 Kentucky. They beat #10 Tennessee yesterday, but having actually seen the Vols lose to Bama from the stands at Bryant-Denny, I was not impressed with Tennessee. The Buckeyes lost to #12 Illinois (10-2). BFD! So, I hope we play LSU. We win!!!!

*All rankings taken from CollegeFootballNews.com BFN 119.

Right now it is the classic situation of the media still feeling resentment for having pumped up the Bucks last year to have them fall flat against UF. It's easier to say they are "undeserving" rather than to do the analysis and admit that this is a damned good team. I hate all that "sitting on the couch" shit. tOSU played just as many games as Georgia, USC, and every other team that didn't play a conference championship game. Anybody else think that if the Bucks had beat scUM yesterday instead of 2 weeks ago that it would be a different story?

Anyways, I think the story or the Buckeyes will change to "the best defense in the country" before the game. The media can't sit around for a month and talk about how much the Buckeyes suck. Either that, or it will be a month of arguing about who "really belongs" or why there should be a playoff. The opponent is really going to drive this story and I'm sure there will be plenty more bulletin board material.

Espn Radio's Gamenight host, Freddy Coleman, admitted OSU would be the #1 team tomorrow. Then he said Oklahoma, LSU, UGA, and yes even Va Tech would all beat OSU in the NC game. :tongue2: It is just entertainment disguised as analysis, I know, but these guys are dumb as paint.

Mel Kiper said that he was rooting for OSU to slide in as #1 or #2 because they "beat the system by playing a cupcake schedule." (He hates the BCS for lack of a playoff.) This is a person who said "The first real test for Ohio State will be at Purdue. Next big test will be at Penn State." After the Buckeyes beat PSU, he stopped saying the Buckeyes were in for a "test," and has basically referred to the schedule as a walk through the park.

To his credit, though, I don't think he is one of those who will predict defeat for OSU. He just complains about their schedule and hasn't given a Buckeye player his due, that I can remember, since he praised Brian Robiskie after the Northwestern game.
Let's not muddy the reputation of paint there fella. These guys are dumb as a truck, a rock, a flagpole, whatever. Paint doesn't deserve this.

I can usually tolerate the Sports Reporters (except that effing scumbag Lupica), and I like John Saunders - but, seriously, these guys should NOT be discussing College Football. Especially Lupica and Stephen A. Smith. They don't know ANYTHING. People along the easetern seaboard from Maine to about Delaware still have yet to realize how important college football is to the rest of the country. Albom is disappointing too - he should be much more informed being from Detroit.

I live in the belly of the Ga. (SEC) beast! I've cultivated a taste for the bile that spews from sportstalk in Atlanta... Not to mention my neighbors...
Tomorrow will be a fine day....
Be prepared to hear about the game from 11 months ago. :( Just back from a discussion with a freakin Illinois fan who said LSU will rout the Buckeyes. Told him to justify it, and he referred to the UF game. After I called him on that he mentioned that he saw the Illinois-OSU game, and I mentioned I saw the LSU losses. Then he said the inevitable self-evident "truth"--'the SEC is a damn good conference.' I called bullshit with facts and at least held my own.:lift: It's always surprising to me that real, adult people in personal conversation repeat talking points like that.

Folks have also talked about the 50-day layoff for the Buckeyes. I think that's what people are most worried about from the Buckeye perspective.

Regarding pundits... I watched the Fox broadcast, not the Espin one. They praised the Buckeye defense, and praised LSU on both sides of the ball. I've been listening to Espin radio all season. Seldom do they discuss their defense, and *never* discuss Chris Wells. It's ridiculous--he's been consistently amazing all year, and figures to be a factor against LSU.

Did Ohio State earn their bid?

Mark Kriegel
FOXSports.com,

Having covered boxing for most of my adult life, I know all about incompetent, inane and corrupted rankings.

This is not that. The BCS is not the WBA, the WBC or the IBF. Yes, everybody except the athletic directors and corporate bowl sponsors agrees that there should be a playoff system. But in lieu of anything so sane, one might admit that this partnership between man and machine actually works pretty well.

That being said, I still don't understand what everybody else seems to be taking for granted: Ohio State.

What exactly did the Buckeyes do to be rewarded with a No. 1 ranking and a chance in the championship game? Everybody talks about the losses. The fact that Ohio State has only one while the other serious contenders have two seems to be their sole qualification.
But what about the wins?

Dearest Fellow Buckeye Fans,
Tis the season to bash the Buckeyes. We've heard it all before. I'm not going to rehash it now, but I want to remind everyone of a few things you may want to stick on your bulletin board.

1. The #1 defense in the country. The Bucks finished at the top in nearly every major category. They held scUM to 91 yards! Virtually the same offense that posted 39 last year. Sure the field was sloppy and Henne banged up, but 91 yards!?!

2. 20 wins in a row. This team accomplished something no other Big 10 team has ever done before by winning 20 straight in the conference. I don't care to hear that the "Big 10 was down." It doesn't matter. Other conferences are "down" and nobody is waltzing through those with 20 straight wins. That is a major, major accomplishment.

3. During that 20 game win streak, tOSU handed Penn State it's worst home loss in years. At night, under "white out" conditions, none the less. Even when Penn State sucks, they don't lose at home often and never by 20.

4. The rankings don't mean squat, espeically this year. So many people take those rankings as gospel. I've seen it written by supposed expert anyalysts that tOSU did not beat a team that was ranked at the time they played them. Huh? Seriously, what difference does that make. South Florida was ranked #2 at some point this year. Laughable. Does anyone seriously think that ranking was accurrate? Weekly rankings are a snapshot in time and I wish they would remove those little numbers from the results pages after the games are played or at least correct them at the end of the year. tOSU didn't beat unranked Wisconsin or lose to unranked Illinois. They beat a very good Wisconsin team and lost to a very good Illinois team, both which finished as top 20 teams on the year. BTW, for whichever writers published that trite, Purdue and Penn State were both ranked when tOSU beat them.

5. Back-to-Back outright Big 10 Champs and finshing the regular season ranked #1 in the major polls. No one from the Big 10 has done that in at least 40 years (I didn't have time to fully research that one).

Let the accomplishments speak for themselves and the Buckeyes speak for themselves on the field on January 7th!

:oh:

Celizic: Ohio State better not let us all down again - College football - MSNBC.com

There?s nothing to be done for it now. Ohio State is in the BCS Championship Game, and it?s too late to ask for a recount of the votes and a reboot of the silly computers that somehow chose the Buckeyes as a championship-caliber team.

But this should be it for the Buckeyes and the Big Ten. Either beat LSU, a two-loss SEC team, or we pass a new rule for the BCS that would go something like this: Two losses in the SEC or Big 12 are equal to zero losses in the Big Ten. So unless a Big Ten team is undefeated and nobody else is around to play for the title, the Big Ten doesn?t get in...cont.
