I wonder why he was upset? I mean to tell you the truth, he only had to endure this type of contact all game without getting a call (check out the hook in the 2nd pic):

NEAL C . LAURON DISPATCH With Josh Duncan of Xavier hanging on one arm, Ohio State?s Greg Oden can?t get to a rebound that fell to Justin Cage in the waning seconds.

Eh, given Oden's foul shooting, it's probably best it wasn't called. :tongue2:

i never saw durant play.

I didn't get to see either of them in person. To me, college is where I "get to know" the future pros. If they don't go to college, it's harder for me to care about their pro carreers at all. Weather I like them or hate them, I'm far more likely to follow if I know the player at all from college. That's one of my biggest problems with the NBA. For some reason, maybe 'cause it's always been that way, it doesn't matter in MLB to me.

Alcindor rules over all frosh standouts
By Jim Armstrong
Denver Post Staff Columnist
Article Last Updated: 03/20/2007 11:24:07 PM MDT

This note's for you, Coby Karl. We're rootin' you in, kid. ...
Enough already with this stuff about Texas' Kevin Durant being the best freshman hoops player ever. The best freshman ever wasn't allowed to play as a freshman. I won't mention his name, but there's a rumor they had him in mind when they instituted the Lew Alcindor Rule. ...
So what happened when they finally let the Performer Later Known as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar play? He went for 56 in his first game as a sophomore. ...

tibor--where are you?

Scout's Take: "I know we're talking about 'moving up,' and Oden can't really go much higher, but here's what's been reinforced: All the talk about taking [Kevin] Durant at No. 1 is ridiculous. If it was possible for Oden to have helped himself in that debate, he did. That blocked shot at the end of the Tennessee game -- that's why he's the No. 1 pick. He effortlessly rotated over and stuffed a potential game-winning shot, and there are about three guys on the planet who can do what he does defensively. I thought Joey Dorsey [of Memphis] would put up more of a fight in the Elite Eight, but Oden destroyed the guy. When you're framing this Durant-versus-Oden debate, it's not like you're talking about Michael Jordan versus Hakeem Olajuwon. You're talking about a higher-level Tracy McGrady versus Hakeem. And I know who wins that argument. Every single time. It's crazy that there even is an argument."

Durant outdistances Oden in Wooden Award voting

Sunday, April 8, 2007 3:46 AM

Associated Press

Texas star Kevin Durant won the John R. Wooden Award in a runaway yesterday to become the first freshman to receive the trophy. It completed a sweep of the top six national player of year honors for Durant, who easily topped Ohio State freshman Greg Oden in the balloting of more than 1,000 voters, including media and college basketball experts. Previously, Durant won the Naismith Trophy, the Associated Press Player of the Year award, the Adolph Rupp Trophy, the NABC Player of the Year award, and the Oscar Robertson Trophy.

To me, there's no question who was a more complete, award-worthy player throughout the entire season: Durant.

However, there's no question who you draft first: Oden.

I agree with this statement 100%.

If, somehow, they were both to come back to college for another year, I'd like to see who wins the bulk of the college awards. I'd give Oden the edge despite Durant sweeping them this season.

Durant's game doesn't remind me of garnett or mcgrady his games is more like rashard lewis of the sonics and oden reminds me of a young pat ewing. Just like lewis durant won't have an immediate impact on the league where as oden will as far as blocks rebounds and scoring because honestly how many good centers are there in the league so he's going to be going against weaker opponents everynight. Durant is going to have tough match ups everynight durant stat wise is a better college player but he can create his on shot so he should get the advantage. But besides Kareem and Walton Oden's freshman numbers are pretty good compared to the other elite centers.

Absolutely. During one of the games this season (cant remember which one), there was a comparison to all of the great centers in college basketball history. Oden, somewhat surprisingly, had better overall averages than these great centers in their freshmen years. Some of them were Patrick Ewing and Shaq.
