Today on College Gameday they gave Durant Freshman of the Year honors over Oden.

I agree with that. He has been outstanding this year. I would still rather build a team around Oden. But I can't argue with Durant getting Freshman of the Year.

Who is the best player?

The debate is beginning to heat up.
Too bad that the Bulls won't be part of it.
The two best players in the world of college basketball are Ohio State behemoth Greg Oden and Texas toughie Kevin Durant.
Oden or Durant?
Billy Buckeye or Luke Longhorn?
Which player would be more desirable if you were the NBA general manager lucky enough to have the overall No. 1 selection come June?
I'm sure John Paxson and Scott Skiles could find a spot on their roster for either Oden or Durant.

Kansas coach Bill Self said Texas freshman Kevin Durant is the most talented college player he ever has seen. Former Utah coach and current ESPN analyst Rick Majerus called Durant ''the best big ballhandler since Magic Johnson.''
Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl described Ohio State freshman center Greg Oden as ''a 7-foot Bill Russell.'' North Carolina coach Roy Williams called Oden ''one of the greatest prospects in the 30 years or however long I've been doing this stuff.''

Texas coach Rick Barnes could see it early in the freshman. The kid was just so competitive and not only eager to learn, but already steps ahead of the other newcomers. Barnes knew from the first day he had found a player who would be willing and capable of producing when the Longhorns? fate was placed in his hands.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) -- If Kevin Durant decides to leave college after one year, it will be without a championship - or even a trip into the second week of the tournament. Southern California made sure of that Sunday, getting 22 points from its more seasoned star, junior Nick Young, in an 87-68 runaway over Texas and Durant, the freshman front-runner for national player of the year.

Durant was amazing. He just didn't have any support outside of Abrams. Amazing player, though. SC did a good job on him defensively, and Durant still poured in 30.

...only by taking 24 shots from the field. IMO, if Durant's as good as advertised, he should have been able to lead his team a little further than the second round in the NCAA tournament. What's worse, his team was drilled by a USC team that can be characterized by mediocre at best.

To tell ya the truth oden wouldnt have a chance in hell against Durant, Oden still needs to develop as a player. He has shown weakness lots of them. The xavier game the emotions really got the best of him when he pushed the player when he fouled out. Oden is going to be a beast but he is not ready yet for a player of Durants caliber, Nor is he ready for the NBA

46% from the field. Would've been 50% if he didn't have to jack up desperation 3s in the closing minutes. The rest of the Longhorns (those not named Durant or Abrams) shot 23% from the field. That's why they lost: no supporting cast.
