With the way this draft class is shaping up, I can't see Hartline being selected in the 3rd round. I think 5th at best. I think it's 50/50 on him even being drafted.

Part of me is glad to see him go, and NOT because he wasn't a great player. He was, and I enjoyed his career...but I like that our offense will be fresh and new. I am excited to see Pryor with new personel. It's no secret that our offense struggled this year big time. Maybe fresh faces and young players, that arrived with Pryor, and haven't had to go through three different QBs like the older players had to, will help the offense get in sync.

I agree!

Hopefully it works out well for him. He moreso left on the basis of being able to provide for his family. I'm not necessarily speaking of his mom and dad. He's engaged and his fiance is expecting, so he wanted to be able to do what he could for them. He's a good guy, and hopefully it works out for the best.

If above is true he probably made the right decision; however, I'm not overly optimistic of him actually being drafted. Anyway: The Best Of Luck To Him (and his family)...

I think part of the excitment of this upcoming season is for this reason.... Lets face it these guys had a GREAT career at OSU but have lost a couple big games. I for one am excited because these new kids don't know what it's like to get embarressed or exposed in a big game. So perhaps maybe they'll go in swinging and not thinking about it as much?

Brian wouldn't have gotten anything out of another year, so I agree there. You add that with not being able to relate with TP and it wasn't a surprise he's gone. Personally I wish him well, but at the same time I'm happy in a way because it will give the other kids like Posey/Thomas a chance to step up.

Brian was a joy to watch here, a true gamer who always left it all on the field.

I think what's happening here is that Brian is electing not to return for his final season of eligibility more than he is actually "declaring" for the NFL. Others here have pointed out his personal situation, and I think he just feels its time to move forward in life, not so much in football. If the NFL happens to be in his future then best wishes on that front. Reagrdless of that, the kid graduates in June from the greatest University in the world. With a soon-to-be wife and baby on the way, that Sheepskin with the name "Brian Hartline" on it will open some serious-ass doors for him.

Best of luck, Brian. Whatever the future holds for you and your family.

Peace.

I agree.
I'm not sure he'll even be drafted, though, unless he impresses at the Combine. Either way, someone will give him a shot in camp. I'll be pulling for him to make it.

Brian Hartline will without a doubt be drafted. That's not even a question. What round and what type of system is the better question. I could see him being taken with the idea of him being a back-up slot receiver in a system like the Colts/Broncos/Patriots.

We are agreeing too much but I also think that he would make a very nice slot receiver in the NFL. He has nice size and is not afraid to get hit. The best of luck to him and his family.

Sunday Special: Hartline ready for the NFL

When the NFL paperwork arrived at Ohio State, Brian Hartline didn?t need to know what the league thought his future might be. The envelope remained sealed. He handed it to his parents.

The junior wide receiver could return for another season of college football or declare for the NFL Draft. Without looking at where a team of NFL general managers and scouts projected Hartline to be selected, he chose the NFL.

?It?s wasn?t about that for me,? Hartline said. ?It?s was about my future life in general and what I?m more excited to do. It?s hard to pinpoint one thing. I thought about where I would potentially be drafted and what my life situation is. I?m ready to move on.

?Whether I still wanted to be in school was a deciding factor. I spent four years in college. I?m getting my college degree at the end of spring. My life, in general, I?m ready to move on.?

Hartline will get married in May. Less than a month later, he?ll graduate from OSU with a communications degree.

Before all that, though, he?ll have a job. He is a projected late-round NFL draft pick.

NFLDraftScout.com is one of the better Web sites on projecting players for the draft. The site has Hartline ranked 43rd out of more than 300 receivers.

That?s not high.

The site has Hartline ranked 369th overall. Hartline may have to wait well into the second day before he is drafted.

During the season, while talking to an NFL general manager during a Browns road game, Hartline?s name was brought up. The GM said Hartline was making a mistake by coming out and would be helped by another year in college.

It?s impossible to say Hartline is making a mistake. He?s making a decision about his future, and frankly, I agree with it. He?s at a place where he?s ready for the next phase.

Hartline?s ranking now and what it will be on Draft day in 32 NFL war rooms will be vastly different. He will work out well. Scouts will be impressed with his athleticism.

MARRIAGE DIDN?T FACTOR

Hartline said getting married didn?t factor in his decision. His fianc?e, Lindsay Smith, still has school to finish at Ohio State.

WAS PRYOR A FACTOR?

There is no question the Buckeyes? passing game suffered when freshman Terrelle Pryor took over at quarterback. Hartline?s numbers dropped off. In 2007, Hartline caught 52 passes for 694 yards and six touchdowns. He caught 21 passes for 479 yards and four TDs in 2008.

Hartline seemed to be one of the players less convinced a switch at QB was the best thing after the loss at USC.

?I don?t think it was personal,? Hartline said.

?When you believe in that family thing ... it was just tough. You want the best for your teammates and your friends. I could not have handled (benching) as well as Todd (Boeckman) did.

?We handle it as a team. It caught us off guard. The season didn?t sputter too much. We kept winning, so I guess the coaching staff knew what they were doing.?

Boeckman and Hartline are close friends. The quarterback will be in Hartline?s wedding.

Hartline said he could have returned for his senior season with Pryor at quarterback without any problems.

?Next year there is going to be improvement in the passing game,? Hartline said. ?You could see his progression this season and how his arm was coming along. ... With a solid eight months working with him in the offseason, he?s going to get going.?

Pryor didn?t throw for more than 200 yards in his last four games. In two of those, he didn?t throw for more than 70. That?s a problem.

I'll miss Hartline and wish he'd come back but people saying he's definitely getting drafted is pretty silly. Maybe if he has a lights out combine he'll improve his chances but 479 yards and 4 TDs doesn't exactly jump off the paper to NFL teams. Stevie Johnson had over 1000+ yards and 13 TDs last year and he got drafted in the 7th round. But hopefully he'll make a team somewhere and turn into a Wes Welker type receiver.
