Notre Dame (football only discussion)

can you imagine the hate in pope urban's heart if his team loses today and doesn't make it to a bcs game, while NoD would be selected in spite of the losses that are much worse than florida's? a florida loss today would accomplish a lot: less bantering about who deserves to play for the nation championship and further revealing of the absurdities of the NoD clause in the bcs constitution.

someone get that gator pulpit ready.

So, it looks like 3 of the 4 at large BCS bids will be scUM, Boise State, and LSU. The 4th is between ND, Louisville, and the Arkansas/Florida loser. Personally, if Florida loses, I think they should get it. I'd rather see ND get it over Louisville. The Big East is a joke and has been exposed the last 2 weeks as such.

Louisville is likely going to get an automatic bid into the BCS by winning the Big East. If WVU beats Rutgers tonight, then Louisville wins the conference. If that happens and Notre Dame makes it in, I wouldn't mind seeing those two teams match up. I think Louisville would torch Notre Dame.

There is no way, no how that those two teams match up.

After the Bowls take their conference champ tie-ins, they take at-larges. Since neither ND nor the Big East champ have a tie-in, they each get pegged against a conference champ unless a bowl that loses both of its tie-ins decides to choose them both.

Not happening.

Yeah, and aside from the 28-0 first quarter we put on Northern Ilois, they hung with us, too. :roll1:

Yeah, and that "good team" was the same one that pimp-fucked you on your own field, while Wisconsin lost to them by half the margin, on the road ness...

Mili- When are you going to learn!

Same argument! Big bad Wisconsin struggled with PSU AND PURDUE! 2 teams that ND pimp-fucked.

With all due respect and supporting Mili, I call bullshit!

  • Wisconsin beat Purdue 24-3 at Purdue, scoring the last 24 points and gaining 441 yards while only giving up 286 yards.
  • Notre Dame won 35-21 at home, gaining 490 total yards and giving up 454 yards.
  • Sounds like Wisconsin earned a much more impressive win.
In respect of Penn State, the comparison you draw is really not a very good one. Notre Dame caught a rebuilding Penn State in only their second game and Penn State had three turnovers. Wisconsin played a very different Penn State team. Nevertheless,
  • Wisconsin beat Penn State 13 - 3 at Madison in an emotion charged game in which Joe Pa was injured and carted off the field. They outgained Penn State, 346 yards to only 203 yards, and scored the first touchdown against Penn State in more than two games.
  • Notre Dame beat Penn State 41-17 at South Bend in a mistake-filled game by Penn State's offensive team and their new replacements. Capitalising on a 29 yard fumble return for a TD and two other turnovers, Notre Dame only outgained Penn State by 11 yards, 394-383.
  • If the game were replayed, the score line would probably be a lot different.
So, with all due respect, Chief, Notre Dame did not "pimp-fuck" Purdue and the win against Penn State wasn't all you claim either.

Nice try.

ND might be out of a BCS Bowl!

I just realized that if Oklahoma and Rutgers both win their games today, I don't think ND would make a BCS Bowl game!

How great would that be, GT losing today also will hurt their SOS. I don't care who we crush on January 8th nearly as much as I want ND to not make a BCS bowl!

Well, let's see here..

You've got

BCS Championship - Ohio State v. I'll say Florida
Rose - Michigan v. USC
Sugar - LSU (at large) v. ??? (Notre Dame is my guess)
Orange - Wake Forest v. Big East winner
Fiesta - Bosie State (by rule, correct me if I'm wrong) v. Big XII winner

NCG - OSU vs FL/UM
BCS G1 - USC vs LSU
BCS G2 - WF vs Boise St.
BCS G3 - OU vs. Big East Champ
BCS G4 - FL/UM vs At Large

Assuming Rutgers wins vs. WVU, you are assuming that Loiusville would get the At Large bid over ND.

Is there a rule that mandates if you are in the top 5 or 6 you are garuanteed a BCS bowl?

I have no idea what bowls are going to get what teams, I just listed them as generic games in order to get the point across.

Yep i'm assuming L-ville would get the At-Large over ND.
Also ND is ranked 10th currently in the BCS. Oklahoma and Rutgers are both close behind them, with wins, I think they could push ND all the way to 13th where they won't be eligble for a BCS Bid. As I said before I think G. Tech and USC losing will hurt ND in the computers also.
