Notre Dame (football only discussion)

I just realized that if Oklahoma and Rutgers both win their games today, I don't think ND would make a BCS Bowl game!

How great would that be, GT losing today also will hurt their SOS. I don't care who we crush on January 8th nearly as much as I want ND to not make a BCS bowl!

Neither of these games affects ND, who only need 9 wins and a top-14 BCS ranking to be eligible, just like any other at-large team.

They'll get picked over Louisville, and the Big 12 winner goes to the Fiesta Bowl no matter who wins it.

Basically, 4 at large spots are available. Boise and scUM, by rule, are invited. Most believe that the other two will be LSU and Notre Ame. But, those second two are totally subjective ($$$$$).

Also ND is ranked 10th currently in the BCS. Oklahoma and Rutgers are both close behind them, with wins, I think they could push ND all the way to 13th where they won't be eligble for a BCS Bid.

Your math is just a little off is all. If you are ranked 10th and 2 teams pass you, then you would be ranked 12th, not 13th.

I was thinking it was Top 12, my bad for getting peoples hopes up. I think there is still a slim chance that L-Ville could get in over them though.

I think my whole logic in addition to my math was off. I'm just too excited about the concept of ND not getting in that I didn't really think it through all the way.

Wasn't there at one time a stipulation that the Top 5 or 6 BCS ranked teams were guaranteed spots? That is the only way I see Louisville getting a bid over ND.

Top 4 is the stipulation, but it only goes to one team. And, that team is scUM.

To quote Stew Mandel: "Not in a million years."

The furthest the Cardinals can rise in the BCS standings is No. 4 (if USC and Florida both lose), but even then they'd probably be behind LSU. If two at-large teams finish No. 3 and 4, the BCS is only obligated to take No. 3. Even if the Rose Bowl takes LSU, the Sugar Bowl is not going to voluntarily pass on Notre Dame to take Louisville. It's just not. The 11-1 Cardinals would presumably slip to the Gator Bowl -- that is, unless the Gator Bowl objects to hosting Louisville for a second straight season and uses its option to take a Big 12 team (Texas, Oklahoma or Nebraska) instead. In that scenario, the No. 4 team in the country would fall to ... the Sun Bowl.

I think we are all neglecting the "FanaticBuckeye Rule"

It states...

"Because FanaticBuckeye (FB for future reference), does not like Notre Dame, they shall not go to a BCS bowl game ever again and shall be relegated to toilet cleaning duties at the GMAC Bowl."

I forgot that particular rule was just added this past summer, so no BCS for ND.

So, it looks like 3 of the 4 at large BCS bids will be scUM, Boise State, and LSU. The 4th is between ND, Louisville, and the Arkansas/Florida loser. Personally, if Florida loses, I think they should get it. I'd rather see ND get it over Louisville. The Big East is a joke and has been exposed the last 2 weeks as such.

If LSU gets a BCS, Arkansas is ineligible. It's WV or NoD. Louisville gets the Big Least auto bid.
