Notre Dame (football only discussion)

So does this put the Irish in the 2012 BTCG?

Will they insist on an automatic seat in the ACCCG in 14?

Will NBC pay to have the ACCCG moved to South Bend?

You can bet your ass that if Michigan State or Michigan wins the BTCG there will be talk of the Irish deserving the automatic Rose Bowl bid.

I don't believe this team gets by Stanford, USC and Okie - they lose one of those, but they might be good enough to win 2 of them and if that happens...

Will Brian "Red Ass" Kelly pull another QB, successfully killing his confidence?

Will another kid fall out of a Cherry Picker?

Will 'Touchdown' Tommy Rees get run down again by a Rent-A-Cop?

Will Jimmy Clausen get a call from that European guy he met at the Britney concert?

As much as I hate to say it...I hope our defense starts playing a little more like the domers. The ND secondary has a lot of young guys playing but they didn't put them in a 15 yd cushion prevent coverage. The only thing I remember seeing ND doing that was questionable is rushing D'nad with 3 guys, and I know how we all feel about that.

Alabama destroyed scUM with superior talent. ND, IMO, showed the blueprint how you can beat scUM with just playing a solid scheme and solid tackling for the most part. Not unlike Miami showing how to get yards against the Buckeyes defense so far. We can't let D'nad have easy throws, as they are the only kind he seems capable of making. I hope we get some of those turnovers when we play them as Brax, and I dare say KG, are better than any of the QB's involved in that game last night.

Navy....Purdue.....Sparty.....scUM....?

Not exactly a murderers row of uber talented teams there....

Don't get me wrong - their defense is much improved. But I still think you guys have one of the best Ds in the conference. A little undisciplined, maybe, but if Fickell can get them to settle down, nobody can touch the talent level on your D.

I think you missed my point. Do I think we have more talent on D than ND? Yes. However, I think ND had a much better scheme against scUM than anything I've seen us do in the first 4 games. If the ND secondary can play closer to the line, then we sure as hell should be able to. D'nad can throw a ball to a wide open receiver when he isn't pressured. He can certainly throw a 5-7 yd out on a three step drop. We need to make sure those aren't available so we can get pressure on him.

EDIT: Except for 1 linebacker.

I don't think you're giving your guys enough credit. The defense is setup by default to stop D'nad, because they go up against a similar QB every week in Brax. Not to mention you have to scheme for Martinez as well.

Who in your first 4 games have you played that run offenses like that? Nobody.

I think that if you guys stop shooting yourselves in the foot, you'll dominate. You have yet to put a true complete game together on all 3 phases of the game, but it's coming, trust.

I wasn't on board after the Navy game two years ago, but Bob Diaco has done a heck of a job turning this defense around. Weis and his predecessors tried a number of times switching defensive coordinators, moving from 4-3 to 3-4 and back, Tenuta's blitzing schemes, but none of that worked. Diaco has been successful in getting pressure on QBs just rushing 3 to 4 guys, although those guys are beasts. Stephon Tuitt is a monster as a true Sophomore, and Louis Nix is a run stopping force in the middle that we've missed. Can't imagine what the defense would have looked like if Aaron Lynch didn't transfer home.

I think Diaco is going to be a big time target for a program somewhere. He's enthusiastic, he's made even an ugly Notre Dame defense look respectable at times, and he's a great motivator.

1. The Bucks' linebacking corps was so dinged up by the Michigan game that Shazier on one leg was better than any alternative available. Still came within inches of winning it on a Miller to Posey toss.

2. Va Tech played an excellent scheme in their bowl game, but Shoelice hit on four - FOUR - hail Mary, jump ball, desperation heaves. Probably used up all his luck in one game which explains his less than stellar performances this year. Also believe coaches watched the tapes of those games and planned accordingly.

3. Another argument for take the money and run. Denard's NFL stock had to slip to "could-use-him-as-a-receiver-in-two-years-if-we-coach-him-up- late-round-free-agent-sign-up" status. He's got talent, but not QB talent.

BFeldmanCBS: MT @LarryLage ND has notified #Michigan it is exercising a 3-yr out in their contract, meaning last scheduled game will be in 2014
LarryLage: A letter from ND AD Swarbrick to UM AD Brandon cancelling games in 2015-17 was obtained by AP through a Freedom of Information Act request

Saw this coming. It would have been nice if, just once, the Big Ten schools had the slightest bit of balls and canceled on ND first. I can't wait to hear from the ACC schools in five years what their opinion of ND is after they've had a chance for their complete lack of character and honor and fair dealing to sink in.

There's no way that the the fighting scissor lifts are going to continue a pure home-and home series with sparty or purdue.

So ND gets their first win in years, and now they want out? That's hilarious.

Swarbrick is actually quoted as saying that USC, Navy and Stanford are more important rivalries for ND. This is true, I guess in that ND wants to have maximum exposure throughout the country, and they alrady play at least half their games in the Midwest. You can be sure that Sparty and Purdue are next to get cut from their schedule.
