Seems like a good fit - mediocre academics - flexible ethics - top 25 program year in and year out - and along with aTm it would have given the SEC a big footprint in a big TV/media market. Would have really put an end to Texas plans to set up a two-horse conference where they got the bulk of the revenue. Maybe they don't mind being one half of the Big Two.
Oklahoma wants to help it's academic reputation and the SEC would do nothing to help that. Still there was contact back 2010 as part of the potential package with A&M (no Okie Jr). Boren did everything possible to make the Pac1x come to fruition and after that deal fell through came to the B1G hat in hand asking for entrance. There was also contact with the ACC about possible entry.
And leaving the ACC for the B12 would have hurt it even further. Not sure what you mean here. Clemson's academic rep is pretty low in comparison to the rest of the ACC,
Believe it or not the FSU & Clemson administrations like palling around with the good academic institutions of the ACC as it enhances the rep of their schools (see Oklahoma above).
Terry Don Phillips & Randy Spetman are not going to determine which conference their respective schools (Clemson & FSU) end up in. Period.but conference athletics are not ruled by the presidents, but by the ADs and therein lies the huge difference between the Big Two, the SEC, ACC and the BIG.
