Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

He's a great defensive coach but being thrown into that position so suddenly at such a young age has to be overwhelming.
You can know the X’s and O’s, or you can know half of them and then hire a great coordinator for the other half. Hardest part of the job of head coach, like many jobs, is knowing people. For most it takes a lot of life experiences to learn people. Freeman is getting some life experiences.

The most overwhelming part has to be getting your 1st HC job at a school like ND. Fickell at least got to get experience at UC before he bolts for a bigger program, Freeman was thrown into the deep end on his 1st try, and it may be a detriment to his career in the long term

I ceased to give a shit about Freeman after he dissed the school that put him in a position to make some serious cash. That being said, it looked to me like he had his team ready to play anybody on September 3. Unless they have no one left who can play QB they should be OK. It's a pretty vanilla schedule except for BYU, Clemson, and maybe USC.

I remember Ohio state needing a last-minute field goal to get by Marshall a few years back. Shit DOES happen.

So if they do not qualify for a bowl, they cannot lose a bowl game. So their string of bowl failures will end.

After going 0-2 and losing their starting QB, do you think Notre Dame can win 6 games and go to a bowl? Or do you even care?

Doesn't Notre Dame have an agreement with the ACC to play 5 games vs ACC teams, etc.? There are only four: UNC, Syracuse, Clemson, & Boston College.

When you're a head coach suddenly you're in charge of EVERYTHING and that takes a lot of planning and preparation. And a program like Notre Dame always is going to have very high expectations which is good but for someone who lacks seasoning it can be very daunting. You have to have good people around you that are on board with you being the big guy and not people who secretly want you to fail.

Bob Davies was good at subtly sabotaging Lou Holtz according to a former ND player I knew form my Moeller days. Got what he deserved. Heavy lies the head that wears the crown.

They're undoubtedly slowly weaseling their way out of their agreement as it suits them, probably needed to make room for UNLV on that schedule. By the end of their time in the Big East, they were offering their "partner" Rutgers a 2-1 deal with the 1 having to be played at the Meadowlands. Why these conferences fall for this and invite them in and give them everything they need, I'll never know. And that goes for the B1G giving their hockey program a home. The ACC is already screwed in television money, so just kick their Olympic sports to the curb and take the hit for losing all of 2 Notre Dame games on tv a year.

"Ohio State’s season-opening victory over Notre Dame drew 10.5 million fans for ABC’s broadcast, according to ShowBuzzDaily. That was a larger audience than the third and fourth games combined: Georgia-Oregon (6.2 million) and Michigan-Colorado State (3.9 million)." And from sports Business Journal:"

Put together, I coma away with two divergent assumptions: 1. Bad as Notre Dame football is the past few seasons, they still bring more eyes to the screen than anyone else in the ACC. 2. But something is happening that if not corrected will reduce their value to the Big Ten or the SEC.
