I'm not going to get into this discussion anymore, mostly because it's been done to death and I agree with most of you. It's been going on for five years off and on, and I post less and less each year as a result. The big issue for me...inevitably the last few years, whether I try to contribute to a football related discussion or not, there will be a "lol scissorlifts" comment. That starts a chain reaction, most of which is level headed and fair, but yet the same old discussion from the last 5 years is revived and it's exhausting. I'm all for fair criticism, but I feel like I have to fire back if there's an exaggeration like "the coach murdered a kid" and/or if the incident is used for humor. The coach didn't spend the night planning how he would kill Sullivan, the AD didn't go out and purchase a weapon to commit the deed. It was gross negligence, a tragic accident, and yes someone should have gotten the axe. There's no argument there. As far as using the incident for humor as some do, that's not very classy and a few in the minority could paint Buckeyes in an poor light. Imagine, if you will, being a member of Sullivan's family and reading comments that poke fun at what happened to your son. There's enough pain there, don't add to it.
Hey, I get it, ND fucked up and it's fun to laugh at the Irish. I enjoy when USC fucks up. I can acknowledge that in 2010 ND colossally fucked up. Sadly it came at the expense of one of our own, and the university will carry that shame. Criticisms are fair, blame should have been extorted, I don't think exaggerations or using a kid's death as a punchline do anything for discussion. In any case, I've said my piece and it isn't worth continuing in an unending cycle. I said last year I'd stay away from the topic, and I broke that promise, but the incident has become the go to response for some posters and I think it's used inappropriately by those people. I spend time perusing or posting on several other non-Irish boards and sadly this is the place where scissor lift jokes are still cool in 2015. The Shag has a couple different Irish fans that post and you don't really see the comments there despite the fact you'd expect it from that cynical bunch.
In any case, I've said enough, and it's not worth continuing the discussion. I came here roughly 10 years ago on an invite from grad, and it just isn't the same board. Times change, boards grow, boards die, boards evolve, some things don't change. I'm just going to move on now. I'll still enjoy following the Buckeyes and watching games with my father-in-law, but my online time is limited with kids these days and it's best if I contribute elsewhere. Most of the posters here have been really cool. Despite his dislike for the Irish, Cinci has been decent and brings a lot to the table imo. RB07OSU is always really insightful and is a great ambassador. AKAK and I swapped some stories about Ashland way back. Had a lot of fun playing GTA V in the Buckeye crew with BuckeyeNation27 and MD Buckeye. There's been a lot of cool guys, but 10 years does a number on the mind, so I can't list all the individuals that made posting worth it. I've rolled with punches for years, whether it was Weis fat jokes, or poor performance on the field, that's all in good fun but I feel strongly about that accident probably in part because one of my cousins was on campus at the time and knew him. I saw what she and her friends went through, and as a parent now I don't know how I would feel if that were my kid. I certainly wasn't as close to the situation, but I empathize. Some things never die or stop being funny, like Weis's ND contract, but I don't think this one applies. It's in poor taste. To those that did contribute to the discussion in a classy way over the years I commend you, and I agree with most of your points because they're truthful and factual, they can't be refuted or interpreted otherwise. I'm just so tired of the discussion in general which is why Ive gotta go, it just can't be escaped like a buyout clause.
