Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

Humor as social commentary...The scissor lift jokes better not go away.
I view it like Penn State, when you stop mocking them for blatantly murdering people/letting kids get raped for a decade, the terrorists win.

Especially since the powers that be are too fucking incompetent/indifferent/unwilling to deal with insane cultist assholes to enact any meaningful punishment.

wtf? I assume Northwestern is exempt (private), but how could a State University subsidized to the tune of hundreds of millions a year be exempt?

The more I find out about Pennsylvania, the more I associate them with the likes of Arkansas and Mississippi.

It all came about from attempting to keep JoePed's salary secret. Remember how he loved to promote the myth that he was just this humble man who only made a couple hundred grand, unlike all those greedy cheaters out there. Well, some journalists wanted to find out exactly how much he made, so they attempted to obtain his salary through FOI. To protect the myth, the university fought FOI requests in court and eventually the PA legislature created some weird, semi-governmental status for the pedsters that shields them from most of the reporting and FOI requirements of state universities.

I'm not going to get into this discussion anymore, mostly because it's been done to death and I agree with most of you. It's been going on for five years off and on, and I post less and less each year as a result. The big issue for me...inevitably the last few years, whether I try to contribute to a football related discussion or not, there will be a "lol scissorlifts" comment. That starts a chain reaction, most of which is level headed and fair, but yet the same old discussion from the last 5 years is revived and it's exhausting. I'm all for fair criticism, but I feel like I have to fire back if there's an exaggeration like "the coach murdered a kid" and/or if the incident is used for humor. The coach didn't spend the night planning how he would kill Sullivan, the AD didn't go out and purchase a weapon to commit the deed. It was gross negligence, a tragic accident, and yes someone should have gotten the axe. There's no argument there. As far as using the incident for humor as some do, that's not very classy and a few in the minority could paint Buckeyes in an poor light. Imagine, if you will, being a member of Sullivan's family and reading comments that poke fun at what happened to your son. There's enough pain there, don't add to it.

Hey, I get it, ND fucked up and it's fun to laugh at the Irish. I enjoy when USC fucks up. I can acknowledge that in 2010 ND colossally fucked up. Sadly it came at the expense of one of our own, and the university will carry that shame. Criticisms are fair, blame should have been extorted, I don't think exaggerations or using a kid's death as a punchline do anything for discussion. In any case, I've said my piece and it isn't worth continuing in an unending cycle. I said last year I'd stay away from the topic, and I broke that promise, but the incident has become the go to response for some posters and I think it's used inappropriately by those people. I spend time perusing or posting on several other non-Irish boards and sadly this is the place where scissor lift jokes are still cool in 2015. The Shag has a couple different Irish fans that post and you don't really see the comments there despite the fact you'd expect it from that cynical bunch.

In any case, I've said enough, and it's not worth continuing the discussion. I came here roughly 10 years ago on an invite from grad, and it just isn't the same board. Times change, boards grow, boards die, boards evolve, some things don't change. I'm just going to move on now. I'll still enjoy following the Buckeyes and watching games with my father-in-law, but my online time is limited with kids these days and it's best if I contribute elsewhere. Most of the posters here have been really cool. Despite his dislike for the Irish, Cinci has been decent and brings a lot to the table imo. RB07OSU is always really insightful and is a great ambassador. AKAK and I swapped some stories about Ashland way back. Had a lot of fun playing GTA V in the Buckeye crew with BuckeyeNation27 and MD Buckeye. There's been a lot of cool guys, but 10 years does a number on the mind, so I can't list all the individuals that made posting worth it. I've rolled with punches for years, whether it was Weis fat jokes, or poor performance on the field, that's all in good fun but I feel strongly about that accident probably in part because one of my cousins was on campus at the time and knew him. I saw what she and her friends went through, and as a parent now I don't know how I would feel if that were my kid. I certainly wasn't as close to the situation, but I empathize. Some things never die or stop being funny, like Weis's ND contract, but I don't think this one applies. It's in poor taste. To those that did contribute to the discussion in a classy way over the years I commend you, and I agree with most of your points because they're truthful and factual, they can't be refuted or interpreted otherwise. I'm just so tired of the discussion in general which is why Ive gotta go, it just can't be escaped like a buyout clause.

Sorry if this was lengthy. Good luck this season, peace out.

Come on man.
My father died of cancer in 1999. Do I whine everytime someone uses cancer as a punchline?
Sorry, but get real. I respect the decision, but the reason?

Don't throw salt in the game of the guys over here at BP there, Issac Hayes.

Fair point, mine also died in 99. Chemo is just as bad as cancer but diff topic.
That self-martyr angle never goes away with them though... even when they're defending the dominant and negligent party.

http://www.chatsports.com/notre-dam...all-Rumors-Expulsions-Vacated-Wins-10-133-701

According to rumors coming out of South Bend that have been confirmed by our sources, four Notre Dame starters will be expelled (the announcement is coming Friday at 3pm EST), and wins from the entire 2012 and 2013 seasons could be vacated.

We have not been able to confirm the identity of these players with 100% certainty, but multiple sources have told us the individuals involved are WR DaVaris Daniels (recently reinstated after an academic-related suspension saw him leave Notre Dame for the Spring semester), CB KeiVarae Russell, DL Ishaq Williams, and LB Kendall Moore. All four are important players for the Irish, and losing them would be a major blow to Brian Kelly’s 2014 campaign.

One source close to the football team told us that he thinks the expulsions are academic-related, and another high-level source gave us more details:

Apparently, a university official had been helping football players cheat on exams and in classes over the past two years, and owned up to it to his higher-ups. The cheating was not related to Everett Golson’s cheating suspension, and Golson is reportedly not involved in this situation.

Re: Interesting update on Ishaq Williams

Notre Dame's Williams getting long-shot tryout with Giants

To say that Ishaq Williams is a long shot to make the New York Giants might be an understatement.

Players who come to rookie and free agent minicamps in the spring on a tryout basis usually don't make it past the three-day camp.

Williams has greater odds. The one-time Notre Dame lineman/linebacker has not played in roughly two years after being cited in an academic fraud investigation involving five players.

He played in an All-Star game in Texas in January, but that's been the extent of his football. He was able to keep his scholarship and is close to graduating, but it wasn't easy. He ballooned to 290 or so pounds and only recently got down to 253.

Random stat I was inspired to look up this morning, since 1995 Notre Dame is 4-12 in bowl games with the only wins coming in the Hawaii, Sun, Pinstripe and Music City bowls.

Over the same time frame Ohio State has wins in the Rose, Sugar, BCS National Championship, Fiesta, Alamo, Fiesta, Rose, Sugar, Sugar, CFP National Championship and Fiesta bowls.

4 bowl wins in 20 years isn't too bad for a basketball school like Notre Dame
