Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

Taking a spot on the defense staff. Said he was going to take the year off then signed on after NLI Day - probably to keep the focus on their recruiting and not create problems for UM.

So beyond the original rumor and denial, where is the link that confirms this delicious development? NoD has been lacking a decided schematic advantage for too long!

I think the Hoke rumor is still the one from last week. I'm not seeing any new information about Hoke coming to South Bend. When the rumor WAS going around, seems like a lot of Irish fans were okay with him coming on in a position coach role, like on the DL. I wasn't one of those fans...something about his attention to detail with concussions and lack of a headset turned me off. I'd be very wary about Hoke joining the Irish staff anyway...if he's on the Irish staff that means he's just one step away from winding up at tOSU  Here's what I'm hearing as far as replacements for the Irish staff:

From what it sounds like, former Kelly assistant Jeff Quinn will be joining the staff, probably as a QB Coach but he could step back into a coordinator role. Quinn spent 20 years with Kelly from GVS to Cincinnati and was his OC during that run.
For RB coach it's not certain, but it's rumored that former Irish player and all time leading rusher, Autry Denson, will join the staff. He previously served on former Irish coordinator Chuck Martin's staff at Miami and was about to join South Florida's staff. If it's not Denson, then there's whispers that Eddie Gran will come from Cincinnati. He's currently the OC there, and he was a RB coach for Auburn in '05 when both Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown were drafted in the first 5 picks of the '05 draft. Gran was a great recruiter in the Florida area, so he would be a great replacement for Alford in that capacity.
For DB coach I'm hearing another former Irish player will come in, Todd Lyght, who started in the secondary at ND during it's last championship in '88. He was previously a DB coach for the Eagles.

I don't think Hoke would come in on the offensive side of the ball, so he would most likely come in at a defensive position only. The only position that's available this season is at DB, and I believe it's already been filled. I think if Hoke was going to come in he would likely be coaching DL anyway.

Just heard who tOSU's new OC will be in 3-5 years if Warriner gets his own gig:

Sounds like ND is hiring Boise State's Mike Sanford to coach QBs and OC. Guessing he'll be co-OC or Denbrock is stepping down to focus just on WR, he's had some health issues. Sanford is supposed to be an up and coming coach and a fantastic recruiter. It will be hard to fill Alford's shoes in that respect, but some sites are saying Sanford is one of the best young minds in college football. Mike is the son of Mike Sanford Sr. who coaches at Indiana State and was Urban's OC at Utah.

Sounds like Jeff Quinn is joining the Irish staff as well, although they don't know in what capacity yet. He was Kelly's OC at GVS through Cincinnati, 20 years of experience with him.
No word for certain on who is replacing Alford as RB coach for sure, rumors are that it's still Autry Denson.

There's been no more rumors of Hoke joining the staff since last week, although there appears to be a several posters on IE that want him aboard as a DL coach anyway. I feel like they're taking crazy pills. I don't care what Hoke did with the DL at Michigan in the 90s, or if he's a good recruiter, it's still Hoke. Plenty of qualified people out there that could do the job just as well or better, and probably for less.

Marc Edwards on the virtues of his Notre Dame education and networking as compared to Ohio State.

The power of Notre Dame

Yet the more Edwards pushed forward, the more the value of his Notre Dame education came to the surface.

“The unique thing about Notre Dame is it’s not just former student-athletes; it’s anybody who went here,” Edwards said. “If you went to Penn State or Ohio State, there’s not the instant trust, whereas if you tell someone you graduated from Notre Dame, through my experiences, there’s an instant trust, an instant brotherhood with that person.”

Edwards, a telemetry consultant for forklift dealers

So, this guy has mid-level position in a company nobody's ever heard of servicing forklift dealers, and they make it sound like he's President of the IMF or running a division at Intel. Fucking domers never cease to amaze me. It sounds to me like some jock-sniffing domer in charge of Speedfleet Solutions bought himself a pet jock, nothing more. And another question, if that ND degree was so much more valuable and superior, why did Dude need to go trolling jock-sniffing alums for a job?

And as DB said, didn't need its own thread.

That still leaves you with the rest of your adult life to fend for yourself and family, which means mortgages, college tuition, car payments, and the same money drains that everyone faces.

Wait what... how many NFL players weren't on scholarship !? I'm sure there's 1 or 2 out there... but... really... and certainly not this guy.

business management degree

Yea, that degree is pretty worthless. A dime a dozen. One of the degrees where University prestige and networking is more valuable than the degree itself.
And this is where he goes awry... because every B1G University not named Nebraska isn't suffering in the prestige department, and their network is a lot bigger than the Domers. Both in the sense of the individual Universities... and in the fact that CIC Universities, especially the older 11, are a bit incestuous hiring between themselves.
A transplanted Iowa alum will hire a fresh Indiana grad before his Auburn counterpart.

I've never in my life felt any brotherhood with a Notre Dame grad.

With one single exception, they've all been self-impressed jerks that I've wanted nothing to do with, from either a business or personal perspective. Professionally, the term "all hat and no cattle" comes to mind.
