I honestly don't know which is more shocking, the hoax itself or the fact that some people are buying that Manti is an innocent victim.

Really, who among us out there wouldn?t have done the same thing? Name me a reporter who says, ?Sorry to hear about your loss, Manti. Can I see a copy of the death certificate??

3+ YEARS.
2009-2012.
His whole college football career.
They supposedly knew each other for 3 years, and not once in 3 years did Teo meet this "girl". Never? He basically flew over "her" every time he went back to Hawaii.
C'mon.

Give me a fucking break. If these guys were really reporting a story, they would have followed up on even the most basic details about what they were writing about. It doesn't take a death certificate to verify many of the basic facts related to the story... facts that maybe won't be written about but at least would let the writer know that the things they were going to write about are reasonably supported assertions.
I don't want to hear the "respect for privacy" excuse, either. Tyrann Mathieu and his family must be shaking their damn heads at that one.
I can see a blog or a small-time newspaper getting taken in by the original story. If you're writing a feature for the cover of Sports Illustrated though, I expect more. The fact of the matter is, many of these people who were doing "original reporting" on Te'o before are nothing more than accomplices in the making of a myth. This isn't something that's unique to this situation or to Notre Dame - it happens thoughout sportswriting. This time, a few people got burned by it. Time to take your medicine.

@freeneyblitz Agreed. People always buy what the media sells regardless of facts. The media will run with a story that Manti was in on it because that's the "bigger" story. Him being pranked is a story as well but not the same. "He did it to get himself exposure and win a Heisman..." I'll wait to see some racts and you know... Wait for Manti to actually speak before i cast any stones froom my glass house.

The ND thing (ND isn't Jesuit like Georgetown or BC; it has a very conservative administration and alumni base) and the NFL thing (no NFL team is going to take an openly gay "distraction" in the first round).
