Yeah, tough gig. Barnett & Randy Walker (RIP) had success before him, but they were only for a couple of years. Fitz was the perfect fit. A program legend who was young, charismatic, and could coach/recruit pretty well for a nerd school. He's been slipping, though. Outside of the weird COVID year, they've been really bad the last few years.

And the Covid year success was enough for the nerds to brag about for another few decades.

This is a lose/lose job for a HC, but should be treated like a stepping stone at this point. They're in the same position as Vanderbilt, nerd schools in very strong athletic conferences, with fans that don't care about sports for the most part. This job is not for the faint of heart, because a young, up and coming coach could see his career stall. And an old coach could destroy any legacy he made.

You have to go back to the 1930s and 1940s to find a Northwestern coach (i.e. Pappy Waldorf and Dick Hanley) with a better record. Fitzgerald even had a better record then (the legendary...:lol:) Ara Parseghian. With the NCAA changes concerning transfers and NIL money, and winning in the B1G getting tougher by adding a couple powerhouse schools (i.e. USC and UCLA, etc.); the Nerds may never get a coach to match Fitzgerald's record.

They may be asked to leave if this scandal devolves much more. The President of the University read the entire report and deliberately decided on a penalty of 2 weeks. That was his FINAL decision. Now he back pedals and reconsiders ? Sounds like a poor CYA. I bet Fitz goes scorched Earth on NU and makes it really bad.

The City of Evanston has already asked NU to pause the development of the new stadium. The Cats will most likely suck horribly for the next few years and there is discussion among unconnected alums that perhaps it’s time to pause football altogether. That probably won’t happen, but it isn’t out of the realm of possibilities

Oh horseshit - they didn't boot the boyfuckers in Ped State over much more heinous stuff (along with a decades-long cover-up to boot), they aren't kicking out Northwestern either.

I don't know what your fetish is with this subject but stop it already, it's not realistic or at least as realistic as me fucking Clara Trinity....
