Northwestern Wildcats (Official Thread)

Of course this is all from former players and staff who choose to remain anonymous for now. But if true, then the university’s investigation was either so incompetent or the administration hid much of this stuff hoping for it to blow over. And if the NEXT investigation (probably done by someone other than the university’s hand picked law firm) reveals that this has been known for over 2 years and that NU extended Fitzgerald’s contract while knowing this had gone on and may have still been going on……then yes, the NU Football program could be shut down for a short period.

No it won't be. The entire staff will be removed long before they shut anything down. Especially as it appears there's enough murkiness around who knew what...

I don't think Fitzgerald survives this though. The AD might not either.

I think NU will be lucky for this not to claim some higher up people like the AD…..or even the Prez. Whomever oversaw the issuance of a 2 week suspension will surely have to pay a hefty price for that hand slap.

Agree. Plus the school is already "all in" on an 800 million dollar rebuild of Ryan Field. You can't shut down the program and justify that expense.
@ORD is our Windy City news source, so I imagine he has a take on this that's pretty close to accurate.

My guess: Fitzgerald is removed as well as several top staffers. Interim labels are given and some new faces are hired.
Program flounders in the 4-6 win territory for a couple years and then goes all in on a new staff when the new stadium opens.

TBH, I’d be surprised if Pat is let go. He may get a longer suspension, but I’d be a monkey’s uncle if he’s let go. The NWU folks in my circle are all somewhere between, “If he didn’t know, the suspension is probably warranted, but that’s it…” and “Who cares, it’s Pat. Kid’s being kids…”

I'm not in tune with how PC or not the Northwestern administration is at the school/BOT level, and yes this assumes the suspension came from the Athletic Department, but I think as this gains steam and the same claims keep getting recycled, they'll can him just to change the news cycle.

Ah but this is where plausible deniability comes in. They hired on outside firm and based decisions around that. The investigation indicated some wrong doing but not very extensive and didn’t really conclude that anyone specific knew anything.

Now, does anyone want to investigate the connections between the hired firm and NW Athletics? Surely this was just a random consulting group. And they would NEVER go lightly, or simply add BS layers/verbiage to protect the interest of the people paying them…

Everyone gets to point at someone else. Funny how the powerful get to do these things.

If Pat wasn’t gone before, this will be the nail in his coffin.

Meh. I think they have to fire him. But that article is goofy.
In one specific incident, a former offensive line coach allegedly asked Diaz how to clean a dirty room, joking that Diaz's family must be experts on cleaning houses.
"allegedly" asked Diaz... The author doesn't even name the coach. And maybe it was a racist coach. If so, that's not cool, but maybe that's why he's a "former" coach. But PF may be no part of that.

Diaz was later diagnosed with PTSD after experiencing flashbacks of his time in the locker room.
Maybe real. Maybe not.

Two other former Northwestern players, speaking under the condition of anonymity,
FFS. If I read any more of this article, is his next source going to be a rumor? "I was talking to an old guy at the bar last night...."

This. Like the “Civility” thread, we need to be more mindful of trying people in the media. That article is race baiting for clicks.

You want to form a virtual mob to go after someone, go after media hacks like that.

Yeah the x anonymous source is doing a lot of work in these stories. Without knowing if it was a disgruntled former player. The articles come across as a lot of he said she said

I was talking to my neighbor who said it’s all bullshit and that he knows for a fact that the author is a double secret micro aggressor.

Whole thing gave me PTSD.
