Northwestern Wildcats (Official Thread)

The racial stuff was the death knell.
Yet the very ex player who accused him of the racist culture has non-stop praised not only NU Football but also the culture under which he was developed by Pat Fitzgerald. His Twitter comments have been literally 180 degrees opposed to what he said in the recent accusatory article.

:bonk:

He’s the only one “named.” Other’s reported the same issue “anonymously.”

If the Northwestern players truly believed in their coach - man for man, all 100+ in the lockerroom like the initial letter said - now is the time to push back and say he’s getting railroaded, the media is wrong and the admin is wrong.

Step up and do the union type thing they’ve always wanted to at NW. Strike. Tell the admin have fun this fall.

I know, I’m getting out there. Just feels like suspect allegations. And very very light transgressions. Stupid to throw Pat away over this.

The racial stuff is a death blow, but this whole thing also seems like the perfect out for a school who was going to have a hard time canning the legendary former player coach. He had a good run but 3 of the last 4 years have been a mess, and the 1 that wasnt was the goofy COVID year.

There’s also this. Wildcat fans should probably be rejoicing if they ever wanted a fresh start.

Will anyone do better than him? Not likely but at least you can dance with a devil you don’t know finally.

Yeah I have feeling the shape of the program has a lot to do with how they are handling this.

I agree that it would have been difficult to fire Fitzgerald given the fact that if NU Football had a Mt. Rushmore he would have 4 of the 5 faces….Gary Barnett possibly the other 1

Now they have their “cause”

But Fitz probably won’t go down without a fight. The Prez, AD, and possibly half the BOT will be fired possibly

this may be enough to cause their FB program to be relegated to Division 2 status.
