No Reservations w/ Anthony Bourdain

Did anybody watch the "Ozarks" episode? Since I'm from Missouri I thought the episode described my area perfectly. Although I have never seen or heard of anybody eating raccoon before.

No one talks about bangin' the fat, hairy chick at the bar either, but she somehow has four kids.

Huge fan of this show.

When I first caught glimpses of it flipping through channels, Tony's snark really annoyed me. Like, REALLY annoyed me. Hated him, thought he was a waste of time.

Not sure why I started watching one of his shows in earnest, but both the wife and I have been hooked for years now. I've read Kitchen Confidential and A Cook's Tour, and we've even gone so far as to have a big-time grownup date where we ate at one of the better restaurants in Omaha prior to watching Tony at the Holland Center.

Funny how your initial reaction to something can be so opposite of how you end up.

Jinxed it.

The Lisbon episode was extremely subpar.

Agreed. KC and Croatia were fantastic. Any episode with Zamir has tremendous potential. My sister went on her honeymoon to the Croatian coast so I was very interested in that episode.

Then came the Lisbon episode. From the very beginning it was poorly done. It had a boring feel to it from the start.

Rewatched the Chicago episode too. The Three Little Pigs sandwich with Mancow looked amazing. Also had me jonesing for Hot Doug's. Would crawl back there for the "Bacon and Cheddar Elk Sausage with Sweet Cumin Mustard Cream and Cheese-Stuffed Hot Peppers" or the "Foie Gras and Sauternes Duck Sausage with Truffle Aioli, Foie Gras Mousse and Fleur de Sel".

Yeah, the Lisbon ep felt forced. When he was talkin' to that old fucker in the cafe or whatever, AB was saying the dude was speaking in hushed tones and covering his mouth because twenty years ago, saying that shit could be bad for you. It would be like him doing a show in the deep south, eating at a Woolworth's with a black dude and saying, he's still frightened because fifty years ago, they would make him leave. It just felt...fake. That's the first time I've gotten that feeling from this show, and I've watched every episode. Hope it's not a sign of things to come.

But basically what I learned about Lisbon is that everyone pouts all day and hates life. Fuck that place.
