Nick Saban (ex-HC Alabama Crimson Tide)

Was Nick Saban's Wife House Shopping In Austin? Reports Say: Yes.

It appears that the "Nick Saban to Texas" rumor is both legitimate and gaining traction. As first reported by Inside Texas and then confirmed by ESPN radio, Nick Saban's wife, Terry, was in Austin two weeks ago house hunting with her daughter-in-law.

Inside Texas' Jesus Shuttleworth, whose weekly column has grown a cult-like following, was the first to report on the Nick Saban's agent Jimmy Sexton speaking with Texas regents nine months ago. He also was one of the first to report about Texas' athletic director DeLoss Dodds end-of-year retirement. Suffice it to say, his credibility remains unquestioned.

Is it time for Bama to have some serious problems?

These rumor mills crack me up. Isn't it possible she was helping the daughter-in-law house hunt?

As for problems for bammer, does anybody think that what's left of the ncaa will really do anything to alabama? They are neutered and toothless at this point. Even if they were to move forward against them, we're talking 2-3 years minimum before any hypothetical sanctions would come down.

Now, all of that said, the meltdown this would cause amongst the bammer fanbase would be epic on a level of maybe nothing we have ever witnessed. He would win big at texas, but at his age, how many years does he really have left? Texas was wildly successful from 2004-09, so maybe he could draw a similar run, but you have to wonder how many years he wants to keep going. At his age, I don't see him leaving to start over again. Texas still has talent, but there's a lot of holes that need filled on that roster, and you have to wonder if satan would want to leave the juggernaut he's built for a minor rebuilding job.

I'm inclined to believe if he goes anywhere, it's back to the NFL. That Miami failure has to be eating at his ego.

It's not as though bama is going to self-report and cooperate.

Texas' only chance at Saban is if they can appeal to his ego and the legacy aspect of rebuilding three historic programs and winning NCs at all of them.

Theres the whole $$$ thing too. While Alabama is no slouch, there probably isn't a team that's able to offer Saban a larger paycheck than Texas. I can't see Saban leaving just for money, especially if it's a Texas rebuild. He'll probably stay at Alabama till he decides he's done or he gets the NFL itch again, which is probably less likely than retirement.

I think duplicating the "we bend and break an insane number of rules but are so efficient at it the possibility of getting punished is next to nothing" system he currently has going would be the most daunting task for Saban if he moved to a school like Texas.

He would actually have some academic oversight at Texas too. Any of them intellekshuls down in Bama question his program, and they'll have their houses burned down.

Not so fast my friends.....Texas is Bama on steroids. If you think the 'catch me if you can' syndrome at Bama is bad, the 'we don't care if you try to catch me' syndrome is very much alive and well in Texas. From living there, not so sure that they even really believe that they lost the Civil War and are NOT an independent state/kingdom. The College trust fund is the largest on the planet (if oil prices are up), and UT is the 'big dog' of colleges in a very large, wealthy state (much like Ohio State is, without so much of the wealth). Having said that, UT is a very good university, with some of their colleges very much top of the heap. Many more resources than Bama (or other SEC schools), and the same win at all costs attitude, in arguably the biggest football-loving state in the USA. Yeah, Saban would do well at UT (especially if Mack Brown gets kicked upstairs to be AD). Money is not the motivating force for him anymore, and he would have a tremendous amount of high school talent, university resources, and more influential supporters around him than he currently enjoys at Bama. Oh yeah, doesn't ESPN have a 'sweetheart' deal with UT for television rights? Heck, ESPN might even move their headquarters from Bristol, Conn to Austin Texas if this move occurs, as UT will become the center of the sports universe.

Yes because when I think of a true student athlete and a model program - I think of Texas football.
This is the same program that recruited and kept Vince Young and Ricky Williams. There is zero oversight for a winner in Austin.
