Snow went to Tennessee I do believe.
Charlie suffered the same injury as myself and I got to know him and his wife when he was going through rehab and he went to Cincinnati. His brother might have won to Tennessee and if he did he probably played with a kid who was a sophomore when I was a senior in high school... Billy Hahn.

It's fun to read about the Nerk Wildcats, my alma mater, reaching the final four this week. I assume Division 1 is the largest of the state divisions (?).

Back in my day in the '50s they played in what was called the Central Ohio League, which included Zanesville, Cambridge, Marietta, Lancaster, Coshocton, Chilicothe, perhaps others. I remember Mt. Vernon was a big non-league foe, and Jim Tyrer (later OSU and Kansas City Chiefs great) was our center and the arena at the old Newark High School was always full for those games. A fellow named Max Douglas was the coach...he was also the coach of the golf team which I played on, and went on to be the first Director of the Newark Campus of OSU beginning in 1957.

In the early '60s, the games moved to a new facility which held more people. Occasionally the Wildcats went to regional playoffs, but rarely to state level playoffs in those days. I think they played against Middletown and Jerry Lucas at some level in the late '50s, but am not sure if it was when Luke was on their team. Cats lost.

The olden days. Go Wildcats. Go Buckeyes. :)
Jerry Lucas played at Middletown from 1956-1959. I believe they won the state titles in 58 and in 59. I remember when he was a junior they played Cleveland East Tech who I thought was unbeatable and a creamed them.

Well those were the days. Now back to real-time.

Newark boys basketball coaches, from left, Jeff Quackenbush, Mark Oberholtzer, Brent Fickes and T.J. Somers played for the Wildcats before joining the staff. "It's the ultimate place to coach," Oberholtzer said.

One day after a 20-inch snowfall crippled much of central Ohio, a large throng of devoted Newark boys basketball fans crashed the Ohio Expo Center Coliseum gates 90 minutes before the Wildcats' regional championship game against Westerville South.
Some Newark players reacted with laughter and others simply stared in disbelief as more than 3,500 of their friends and neighbors scrambled to claim the arena's prime seats.

Go Wildcats! I went to the Trotwood game and was very impressed with the team. Extremely well coached. Their PG #22 really stood out to me in that game. The Trotwood team looked a little bigger and played ferocious defense. But Newark never lost their cool. My only criticism of them for that game was the way they handled fastbreaks. They did not seem comfortable pushing the ball up the court and thus made a lot of blunders.

I would love to go to the game tonight, but alas, I have other obligations.
