NEWARK -- When Greg Avery thinks of an All-Ohio basketball player, scholastic excellence comes to mind as quickly as athletic prowess. "You obviously must be good in and out of the classroom," the Newark shooting guard said. "A scholar-athlete is what I think of."

COLUMBUS -- It was the first play of the game Saturday, but when Greg Avery took a pass from Cody Dennison, he paused and noticed nobody near him. Almost shrugging because of the space, Avery knocked down the 3-pointer -- a sign of what was to come for both the senior and the Newark boys basketball team.
