Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

During Tom Osborne's 25 years as head coach, Nebraska won at least 9 games, and lost no more than 3 games, during his entire tenure. His record there was 255-49-3 (.836). Unreal.

Yep, he AVERAGED over 10 wins per season, and that was when in most of those years no team played more than 12, including a bowl!

I'm not sure any coach will string together that kind of record over such an extended duration again, parity really has made that much more unlikely.

And the most dominant single season in my lifetime. Touchdown Tommy just scored on the Gators again.

That utter destruction of then undefeated Florida and their motor-mouth coach Spurrier has to be my all time favorite Husker game. I still remember one of Spurrier's pre-game pressers, where he confidently predicted that his Gators were way too fast for Nebraska to handle. I also remember his over-confidence during the game, displayed in particular in one spot - we punted and had them backed up inside their own 5. First play, he called a drop-back pass, and we blitzed and ALMOST got the QB for a safety before he could get rid of the ball. Second play - he confidently calls the same play - with exactly the same result - missed a safety by inches and fractions of a second. THIRD play, he arrogantly calls the same play AGAIN, and this time we got the QB for a safety in the end zone!

Earlier in the thread it was discussed that Nebraska gained a recruiting advantage, by running the option. Imagine, how many major programs offered Touchdown Tommy as a RB, or WR, and along comes Osborn, who offers him as an option QB. NU's day in the sun 1965-2003 is unmatched in college football history.

It seems as though the sun has set in Lincoln. :sarcastic:

I would agree. We have a couple of choices here. We can be a former great, former relevant team like Minnesota and fade off into the sunset, or we can demand greatness and claw and fight our way back there.

If Boise State can be nationally relevant with a 30,000-seat stadium and a fraction of the alumni of a Nebraska, there is zero reason why we can't be as well. It just takes work and determination.

With all due respect to you BuckeyeSoldier, trash talking Boise State in a Nebraska football thread while Bo is the coach is a joke. They can correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure Nebraska fans would be thrilled to overachieve in at least one game a year.

OK, I'll accept that challenge to correct you! While Nebraska is surely not playing to the level I and most Husker fans want - overachieve in at least one game a year?

Hmm, lets see... Last year I'll take the 23-9 win over Michigan.

The year before that - well, how about the 28 unanswered-point comeback to defeat tOSU 34-27? :groove:

We do that every year.

Like the previous post says worst OSU team I can remember in a long time.

What's funny is you said you'd take my challenge then decided to mention 1 game each from the last 2 years.

Don't get me wrong I'd love to see the Huskers playing top notch ball, I just don't think bashing Boise in Nebraska's defense is the best way to go about it.
