I'd like to throw out a few questions to our resident 'Huskers now that they've been exposed to quite a bit of B1G affiliation.
1) What are your overall impressions thus far in being a part of the B1G athletically? I guess I'd have to echo what a lot of the sportswriters say - the B1G plays a different style of game - which I actually think is Nebraska's historic style. More emphasis on the ground game, more emphasis on dominating line play, on both sides of the ball.
2) Much difference between the B1G and your former conference? The biggest difference is in the stability, and the emphasis on academics and research collaboration, not just athletics.
3) How have the B1G fan bases been similar or different? To be honest, I'd have to say very similar overall. Both conferences have the fan bases with the reputation of douches, as well as the fan bases with much better and more sportsmanlike reputations.
4) Now that the honeymoon period of elation is slightly passed, still excited for what the future holds? Absolutely, 200%! Couldn't be happier. When the announcement was made last summer, I (and I think the majority of fans) were "cautiously optimistic." Glad to be getting into a stable, highly respected conference that treats every school as equals; sad to be giving up some decades-old rivalries. As time has gone on, and now as we've gotten to the thick of conference play - in football and other sports - I'm actually even happier that we're in the B1G then I was in the beginning. Still sad to see some of the old rivalries die, but the Big-Texas conference tempered that, as they had already destroyed our biggest, most historic rivalry with Oklahoma. That's to me emblematic of the problems with that conference, and no matter who they add, I don't see them anywhere near the B1G now or in the future. Go B1G!
