Neal Shipley - ex tOSU golfer, now touring pro

Put some money on my man this weekend to finish Top 10. Pretty cool to have a Buckeye in the mix again

Shipley came back with a 66 today, he's sitting at -3, tied with 11 players for 42nd, and made the cut. The leader is at -12. There are 10 guys tied for 9th at -7; he's just 4 shots out of the top 10 with 36 holes to go.

Making the cut puts him in line for another payday. Here how the payouts will go:

FWIW, this was on reddit

Hi r/Golf, Neal Shipley here at the 3M Open on a sponsor invite. You might know me from low am at the Masters and the U.S. Open this year, now playing on PGA TOUR Americas. AMA!

**UPDATE** Neal is running a little behind after his round today. We'll likely get started no later than 4:30 p.m. ET now. Thanks for you patience!

It has been a whirlwind of a year so far. From graduating college, turning professional, competing in major championships, PGA TOUR events, and playing internationally on PGA TOUR Americas, it is all happening so fast and I’m having so much fun. To earn low amateur honors at Pinehurst and Augusta, I’m just so incredibly honored. I’m grateful to 3M for having me this week, and giving me another opportunity on the PGA TOUR.

I'll be back to answer your questions at 3:30 p.m. ET after my first round tomorrow. I tee off at 9:46 a.m. ET. Let’s chat!

You can go here and read "the chat":

Here's one: Will you share the photos of you eating that your friends post in your group chat as you mentioned in the Bryan Bros YouTube video? We want to see what a real tour pro's diet looks like.

Well, Shipley finished in a 7 way tie for 37th place: 73 - 66 - 69 - 69 = 277 (-7); 10 strokes back of the winner. He made $35,235.00 this weekend for his efforts. The next PGA tour is the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, NC on Aug 8-11. Next week there is a beak for the Olympic Golf Competition.

Has anyone seen the Netflix show that features Shipley? I have not, but wonder if anyone has, and if so, where is it, and the title? Thanks in advance. Read that Neal didn't get his PGA card, but got an 'exemption' for 2025. Guess relying on sponsors exemptions to play in the big leagues, but other than Columbus, might not get many people into the gates.

I haven't seen it because I didn't know about it, but will be checking it out now. Here is the info:

But that didn’t keep his Ohio State housemates from delivering barbs back on campus – he possessed a “body by Waffle House” and was “first-team all fridge,” a nod to his burly stature. Shipley embraced these characterizations in his at-home interview for the third season of Netflix’s “Full Swing,” which was released Tuesday, Feb. 25.
Shipley was portrayed as down-to-earth and likable in Season 3, Episode 1, which illustrated his journey from Ohio State – where he shared a house with five other members of the men’s golf team – to the 2024 Masters, where he was the only amateur to make the cut (he qualified as 2023 U.S. Amateur runner-up).

Probably the most pressure-packed tournament a golfer can play in is the Tour Card Qualifier. Sure, in the pros, a missed put can cost you $100,000, but a missed put in the Q-school can cost you millions. Neal qualified for the 2025 Masters by being low amateur, which is super. However, do not know if his invite is still valid now that he's a pro. Am certainly hoping it will be. Someone on course (remember, we are all gray-haired), that Neal finished second in the Masters, which again should qualify him (amateur or pro) to tee it up in Augusta this April! PS, thanks Johnny, will tune in to that Episode.....Go Bucks!

As am certain all golfers know, club or muni, that the diff between an excellent collegiate player and a professional, is one large leap. And doing it week after week after week, is something (at least to me), truly exceptional. From Script's post, it appears that Neal is going through some growing pains. Do have confidence, that if he sticks with it, he'll make the grade. PS, anyone know how Moldau (sp?) is doing? He was neck and neck responsible for tOSU going against Auburn in the NCAA finale.

What is former Ohio State golfer Neal Shipley up to now?

The Masters teed off this morning at Augusta Country Club down in Georgia. Unfortunately for Ohio State fans, the tradition that is unlike any other will not feature any Buckeyes this year.

Last year, Neal Shipley made headlines when he not only finished as the tournament’s low amateur, but was also able to finish his first Masters with a memory he will never forget, as he was paired with Tiger Woods for the final round of the tournament. Shipley also would go on to finish as the low amateur in the U.S. Open a few months later.

Following his impressive performances at Augusta and Pinehurst, Shipley would turn pro, playing on the PGA Tour of the Americas, where he played well enough to earn his Korn Ferry Tour card. Unfortunately for Shipley, he hasn’t played well so far on the Korn Ferry Tour, only making the cut in two of the seven events he has entered.

Shipley’s best performance came in the Panama Championship in early February when he finished tied for ninth place.

At least Shipley has had a few notable moments so far in 2025. In his only PGA Tour event so far this season, Shipley made the cut and finished tied for 47th at the Valspar Championship.

In the third season of Full Swing on Netflix, Shipley was featured because of his performance at last year’s Masters and his final round pairing with Tiger Woods. Shipley earned a few laughs when he said he had a “body by Waffle House”, prompting the production of a “body by Waffle House” ball marker to be made for him prior to the Valspar Championship.

Well nuts! Guess that answered my question whether his amateur exemption would carry into this year's Masters as a pro.....As in any profession, learning the ropes can be frustrating. The difference between great college amateur and professional (taking home a check) is hugenormous. Being consistently good (at that level), is difficult. Well heck, even I can light it on fire, just not every hole. Keep on plugging Neal, and hopefully you'll get there, and add your name to Nicklaus, Cook, Sindelar, etc. Go All Bucks!
