Neal Shipley - ex tOSU golfer, now touring pro

Wow! Doesn't sound like golf, but a putting tournament. OK, putting is 50% of the game (par is 72, and two putts per hole = 36 strokes). Can't even dream of 'blowing up' to a 69, and still have it 3 under par...Do wonder about the way that the PGA is 'easing' the way to get one's tour card (per Script's great post above), and then turns around and puts the screws on to reduce the number of money finishers from 125 to 100? Seems like PGA is handing out cards with one hand, and taking them back with the other. Makes the mountain easier to climb, but harder to stay on it. Heck, I cannot even play decently from the whites anymore, let alone the blues/blacks.

Now you're getting it. The PGA has stiff competition now. They can say "look how we are growing with this many new pros..." while shit canning anyone they didn't really want because they aren't improving "the brand". Sneaky fucks

Neil's not gong to have to worry about it though. He's gonna stick

As a player, (please do not think I remotely play at this level), do recognize, and see that when these players win, they've been 'hot' for that week. The week prior, or week next, may not be at that level (reference 'the golf swing'), and/or putting eye. Anyway, it is truly difficult to maintain the 'edge' week after week, let alone put it all together and enter the winner's circle. Of course, one has to remember that the dude (or dudette) that puts on the current tournament, has a number of Sponsor Exemptions with which to utilize. In other words, Tiger is not at the top of his game, but gets a sponsor's exemption for that week, and voila! Ticket sales go up by 50,000 just because he's appearing for a minimum of two days. Or a Neal Shipley (probably tournament in Ohio) et cetera. Still a bit early, hoping am making a modicum of sense here. That's why a tournament boasts some of the players that are household names, but not going low in tournaments. There are simply too many good players to win week after week on tour.

He had a poor (one under on a low-scoring course) last round and finished tied for 7th. Surprising, but thus far in his professional career he seems to have had a high ceiling and a somewhat low floor (quite a few missed cuts to go with two wins and several other high finishes) so it's not too surprising.

The vagaries of golf. Remember that a pro opened with an 82 at the Masters, and the next day shot a 62. All with the same swing and conditions. It's called 'golf'. One's a heartbreaker, and the next day a day to remember. Hope Neal finds some consistency, because he appears to have all the tools to win on tour. Also remember that in the beginning, Tiger was the long driver on tour. Next year or so, he cut down his swing, hit more fairways, and starting winning tournaments. Hope he's got a good swing coach....Wish Jack Grout was still around at Scioto.

Like the movie says, its a great game but "it's a game that can never be won, only played."
