It's hard not to share BayBuck's frustrations with the glorification of St. Charlie. It's equally hard to not agree with methomps, it really is time to stop picking nits here.
I actually don't think there is much to discuss in terms of competitive intelligence once you open up to another team, pro or college. Ohio State and many other college teams share information with other college teams outside their conference and don't seem to regret it.
Even if one accepts that pro and college coaches don't talk, and that's pretty hard to believe, if you visit a pro team chances are that someone, oh say their offensive coordinator :tongue2: , could end up on the other side of the college football field next year.
Also, any top coach can read the tea leaves if he sees enough film, so the college/pro sharing thing is really a moot argument.
Thump makes a valid point about this thread running its course.
However, it is hard for people to not react when Chief posts "spin" stuff about Weis and Notre Dame. The facts are that Weis is arrogant. He is so fantastically ego-centric that his opinions are stated as if they were truths. He has said some incredibly silly and classless things.
Should Buckeye fans take these things personally? Well, only insofar as the media buys in and Notre Dame gets another unfair rating that possibly blocks us from a deserved shot at the National Championship.
Actually, it is possible to see Weis through compassionate eyes. And to feel some sympathy for his arrogance and weight, which are the known signs of a very insecure person.
Taking this "kindler, gentler" route may offer the potential for our own growth as human beings and lead us to ask important questions. Maybe "in Charlie's world" everything revolves around him because he is constantly overwhelmed by an internal monologue about his own self-esteem? Perhaps he makes comments about Tressel's achievement because he is constantly running others down internally to try to combat his own insecurities and true lack of self-esteem? What if he is compelled to visit the pro teams simply because he is driven by internal demons to leverage himself above other coaches so as to not shatter a fragile self-image?
On the other hand, what if he's just a fat ass with no class? You decide.
