Woody hit an opposing player, which is worse than being fat, arrogant and disrespectful combined . Why did he hit an opposing player? IMO, he thought he was to good to lose. And you say CW is arrogant......
Un-fucking-believeable. If you did ANY research into Woody AT ALL, then there is no way that you could rationally come to the conclusion that he was an arrogant man. There are countless numbers of examples of his acts of compassion, generosity, humility, and the desire to see OTHER PEOPLE succeed that span 3 decades. And those are only the ones that were documented. That was a Dick statement. Fuck you.
Why did he hit a player? It had nothing to do with being
too good to lose. I doubt that you would ever be able to find any evidence to substantiate that claim. It was becasue he made a poor decision in the heat of the moment in reaction to a player that was way out of line by getting in the face of the opposing coach. Have you ever considered that what transpired there has never happened again that we know about. Obviously, you have never considered that the ramifications of what that act did and how it changed the way that players and coaches, opposing teams, and fans in general look at the game of college football and interact with one another. Yeah, Woody screamed up and down the sidelines, frequently he said colorful things and once in a while he would act out to create a point. Did you know that some of that, probably most was a ruse. One of Woody's assistants, sorry, dont remember which, once told a journalist that he used to cut the stiches in his cap so it would tear more easily when he tore it up? A lot of his actions were premeditated to get his team and the fans fired up. To be passionate about something. To be as passionate about the Buckeyes as he was. something of which he was proud to be a part of and something of which we are now all proud to be apart of. His passion for the kids that he came into contact with on the football field spilled over into the classroom. It was important to be successful on the football field because that was something that you can take with you now. A victory. Something that no one could ever take away from you. Something that you hold as your own. Immediately. And something, NDChief, that you should actually be greateful that he did because of the people that he sent your way. But it was equally as important to be a good person, be a good student becasue that is something that you take with you forever. A more important victory. I victory that gives you dignity.
It is sad that many outside of OSU football will remember Woody for nothing other than that infamous moment . They will never remember, or ever even likely hear the words, "pay it forward." or "you win with people." I suppose on this board it is a bit cliche, but nonetheless true.
NDCheif, there is no, nor will there ever be an accurate comparison made between Woody Hayes and Charlie Weis. It could only be as accurate as 30+ years of Excellence, Honor, Integrity, Humility, Compassion and Kindness vs. 1 year of Arrogance and unfulfilled expectations. I hope that this thread is now closed to this subject.
