ND at MSU, Time for the BIG to get Serious

I'm going to send out the jwinslow signal on this one to talk about how strong the SEC is behind LSU and Alabama.

In my opinion, mediocre SEC teams consistently being rated in the top 20 is the biggest impact of the ESPN hype machine. Overrated teams being beaten by other overrated teams creates a self perpetuating myth of SEC greatness on a yearly basis.

The top teams have taken care of business on the biggest stage which masks the weaknesses elsewhere in the conference- at least IMO. The top teams in the Big 10 haven't done that of late, so we will have to wait and see what happens if Ohio State (and maybe Michigan) start doing that again.

Why does the BIG have to get serious?

The BIG won't be on the field, only sparty will be...

Fuck the "My conference is superior" bullshit

I agree 100%...until I don't.

If it was any one else other than ND I'd be on board. Problem is If they beat Sparty the fans around here will be intolerable. They can beat scUM if they want, i'll have no problem with that. Besides I'd rather play at least one undefeated BIG foe before the season ends..I'm pretty sure Sparty is the only one capable at this point.

I agree with all previous points made, except I actually believe Pelini has a chance to make Nebraska into a solid national player. Not at the level of Ohio State, USC, or even Michigan, but possibly like Arkansas under Petrino or Wisconsin the past few years under Chryst.

They were quite literally shafted in 2010, or else it would have been them and not Texas who won the Big 12 (and went to the national title game). IMO, give Pelini a few years to start properly recruiting the B1G states, build up that defense into what it used to be, and we should have a solid 2nd/3rd best team in the Big Ten, capable of competing with equivalent SEC/PAC OOC opponents.

Of course I was outraged about it. I said at the time that all legal matters should be handled fairly. At one point I called for his job and legal action against him. Nothing has changed the way I feel about him. He doesn't seem like a good person.

And yet here you are venting your bile at the wrong target. If you want us to shut up about the evil program you support then either raise hell until justice is served....or pay us to stay silent silence.

After all that is the Notre Dame way.

Complete agreement with jlb, but what about the rape victim? Please advise us on how to proceed with that victim.

It's rape victims, plural. ND has been covering up rapes committed by it's football players for decades.

Lay off. He already said he "doesn't even like the guy that much".

I felt the same way. While no one will fess up who was responsible for overseeing the video coordinators, the blame should have rested on the highest shoulders, Kelly and the AD Jack Swarbrick. The Sullivan family could have and should have sued, and one or both the jobs of those two gentleman should have been taken since no one fessed up who coordinated the video personnel. In any case, it was an accident that resulted in a tragedy. I haven't found similar tragedies humerous when other universities were involved, but to each their own.

My opinion has come around to the idea that the 10 year war was bad for the conference in the long term.

Before it, the conference was pretty balanced, somewhat similar to how the SEC is today in terms of a balance between power programs and yearly parity. Ohio State and Michigan were the two dominant powers but numerous other schools (pretty much all but IU and NW) were competitive and would rise up for 3-4 year periods and play at the level of OSU-UM and even compete for or win national championships. None of those programs other than Wiscy has every truly recovered from those 10 (really 15) years of being relegated to also ran status and getting blown out on the field consistently by the Big Two.

You know which team won the Big Ten title in 1967, the last year before the 15-year run where either Ohio State or Michigan won or shared the conference title every year? None other than Indiana. It was only their second conference title ever (the other being in 1945).

I think it's hilarious Kelly still has a job.

Norte Dame is showing disrespect by having not fired Kelly for putting the kid in a clearly dangerous situation.

Shameful

You guys really need to stop making scissor lift jokes. For the love of Hod, a person died and people poke in at it. His name is Declan Sullivan and some people use his death as a punch line. I have no problem if you don't like Brian Kelly. In fact, I don't even like the guy that much. I don't even care that you hate Notre Dame. But please stop making jokes about a kid who is no longer with us. He has parents. How would you feel if you lost a kid and saw people using his death as a cheap joke? I could care less about the Notre Dams hatred. I even understand some of it. But show some respect.

Based on coaching moves, it seems like Ohio State and Michigan are going to carry the water for the entire conference into the foreseeable future...

Bielema is a joke at Wisconsin that continuously embarrasses on the big stage- I don't see that changing anytime soon...

If Notre Dame wins, I will mail a crisp 20 dollar bill to a group of Irish fans that can capture on video an " ACC ACC ACC!" chant at Sparty fans as they file out of the Stadium.

Video must be at least 1:30 in length
