ND at MSU, Time for the BIG to get Serious

You know a MAC school that will jump 10 spots in the rankings with two wins at the beginning of the season? You know a MAC school that can beat Purdue and make the cover of SI? When you walk around in NYC, Boston, DC, San Francisco, LA, Denver, Chicago, Miami, Phoneix, New Orleans, do you see fifty folks wearing Toledo/Central Michigan/et al hats?

My point exactly.

Did you even read what I posted?

Yeah, I did; you said:
I don't think winning will do anything for the Big Ten. Beating ND these days is like beating a more decorated MAC school(or Boise). If they win it'll just be the typical, "ND was overrated anyway." That, or yet another excuse for the SPiN to bring up the S**. Losing however will just increase the scrutiny.
And what I said was that it is far different than beating a MAC or Boise State team.

ND sits in Big 10 territory and is a major force in TV and print media - winning or losing, they draw attention. They go head to head with Big 10 coaches in the Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Michigan talent pools. They get players that might otherwise end up on Big 10 campuses.

Seldom is that true about any MAC school and Boise recruits regionally, not nationally.

Like it or not, the closest measure fans outside the Big 10 have as to the strength of the conference comes from three games played each September, ND - Purdue, ND - Michigan State, ND - Michigan. At the end of those three weeks most fans - Big 10 and others- have made up their mind as to the relative strength of the Big 10.
