I'm sold. It's not without its flaws, but they finally fixed a lot of core problems. Players actually run similar to human beings and not malfunctioning mechwarrior bots. There is a pocket, fleeing it is a gamble and QBs can be pressured. IF we can turn down the frequency of the "lame duck throws while getting hit", that's a great addition.

This is a much different game, not just the typical EA approach to overcompensate in one direction with overdone sliders and superhuman plays. It is possible to throw over a DB who is sitting 7-10 yards in front of a play. Out routes and deep patterns can be thrown beyond the WR. You no longer need 5 yards of separation to complete passes.

Defenders rip ballcarriers down from behind by the shoulderpads too often, halting their progress immediately. But overall it's better to err on that side than the guaranteed extra 2-3 yards when tackled from behind.

The gang tackling and ability to both break free and get the ball stripped are a nice addition. As long as those aren't overdone (or if so, can be tweaked by sliders), that's a nice addon.

QBs no longer throw it right to a DL that you change from blitzing to dropping into coverage.

They've finally gone to work on the core problems in this game. Now if they would just take care of some of the inexcusable basic errors, like rosters & uniforms, they'd be fine. In this day and age, you could round up a dozen volunteers for each major team to fact-check your work.

How is the passing? Can you throw the ball with appropriate touch/zip according to the route?
On post routes, out routes and curls, a normal pass often floats in there with a nice arc over the wr's shoulder... where before it was a guaranteed swatted ball.

Dbs can still jostle it free with a good hit or swipe at your arms, but wrs hold on more often than not unless they are led into a safety that takes their head off.

What I like also is that this game is very playable on all American from the games I've played so far. That should make for a better foundation to adjust sliders. Past games had to be played on heisman to provide any semblance of challenge or defense.

The spin move can still be deadly, but also slows you down a lot unlike last year.

You have to throw before the d reaches you or you throw up a duck that goes 5 yards and is intercepted.

Good Fan: I retract my statements about this game, it is a definite buy (as if it ever wasn't). Good to see alot of important problems fixed.

Bad Fan: Still no formation subs. I want to have Corey Brown and Dorian Bell on kickoff coverage. Is that too much to ask?

Jwins, from what I am gathering from your posts a corner route(route to the outside) is not an automatic jump/swat by the d? Last year for me it didn't matter how much my WR was open on a route like that, the DB/LB always jumped it.

Right. You can even occasionally drop a pass over the shoulder of an out route wr with a db right on his hip. Now tight coverage can lead to breakups during the catch, but the pass is getting there with a chance.

Not the guaranteed knockdown before, or having to throw past the wr and watch him suck to the football.

can you actually play man to man this year and be able to defend the pass regularly?
I played as OU on all-american and Florida was in man coverage on an out route. My receiver caught the ball while being blanketed by the DB, and was unceremoniously wrag dolled to the ground. Good catch in tight man coverage. Very encouraging. I never would have attempted to throw it before I read jwins posts. Now, in man, I was able to break up a couple of those plays, from man coverage, by hitting the receiver as the ball got there. I was never able to walk through the WR and intercept though. I got two interceptions in the game, but none were of the miraculous nature.

So, yes, it looks like you can cover out routes in man. They may not be incompletions, but its not a guaranteed 15+ yard gain on a 3 yard out.

Anyone test curl routes yet? Those were always left open in man coverage?

I just can't wait til I get home tonight to go crazy on the demo all night long (downloaded the demo overnight)
