The "Untitled Amy Poehler Sitcom" is decidedly untitled no more.
Not long after its tentative name, Public Service, was revealed, NBC has decided instead to dub the Office-style mockumentary Parks and Recreation.
Explaining the title switch, NBC entertainment co-chairman Ben Silverman told the New York Times, "[You] can't make fun of public service. [We] don't want to seem mean about it."
As revealed at last month's TCA Winter Press Tour, Parks and Recreation (which premieres April 9) finds Poehler playing Leslie Knope, a big dreamer within a small-town's local government. Rashida Jones (aka The Office's Karen) costars as a nurse who brings a grand idea to Leslie's desk, setting up the series' ongoing plot point ? the painfully slow, red-tape-riddled conversion of a dangerous construction pit into a city park.
