Finally got around to watching last weeks episodes and I hate to say it, but, I'm starting to think 'The Office' has "jumped the shark". Really don't like where the show is going at all. :(
It's one thing when they ruin angela by destroying her legalistic, prudish lifestyle to suddenly chase the new guy like a hormone crazed teeny bopper, competing with the dating crazed dolt...

But now they're doing the exact same thing with Dwight too? Really?

Did I miss the news about another writer's strike?

It's becoming borderline unwatchable. It is literally not even close to the show that I once looked forward to watching. Completely changing character's personalities, convoluted storylines...blech. If this doesn't right itself, I won't be watching season six. Here's my problems...

- Michael: Initially a simplistic boss who loved to show off for the camera. Had moments of idiocy, but they were believable. Seemed like a man that was just in over his head, but was compitent enough to keep his head above water. Now he's a cartoonish, slapsticky boob who seems completely incompitent.
- Dwight: His interactions with Jim used to be a highlight of the show. That's been almost completely dropped and now instead of the power hungry stickler, he's morphed into just another sitcom funny man.
- Jim: Same as above, just reversed. The pranks on Dwight were one of the best parts of his character. I think the writers rushed getting Pam and Jim together and lost a lot of the spark in doing so.
- Pam: See Jim. Also, following Michael along to form his own paper company? She knows his incompetence moreso than anybody in the office, yet thinks he can pull that off? Come on...
- Angela: jwins covered it all above.
- Kelly: The one character that has stayed pretty much the same.
- Toby: Where is he? Why'd they bring him back again? Again, his interactions with Michael were some of the best parts of the show...
- Kevin: Need more Kevin.
- Stanley: Need more Stanley.
- Ryan: Played the put-off temp role so well. The awkwardness between him and Michael was great. His whole storyline arc is just crazy though. Working in a bowling ally? Really? And the whole attitude/personality change is ridiculous.
- Phyllis: Used to love her interactions with Angela which are few and far between now.
- Oscar: Where'd he go?
- What happened to the warehouse guys? Darrell is one of the best characters on the show and has been pretty much nonexistant.

What happened to Jan? She was pregnant, then the storyline was completely dropped. I really thought the Holly character had potential with Michael, but they killed that off unceremoniously too.

What made the show so great was that beside strong leads, they had great secondary characters. But, they never felt like secondary characters. Now they do. I hate to see the show going into the toilet, because I genuinely loved it for the first three seasons. Season four was uneven, but had it's moments and seemed to close strongly. Season five has been subpar and seems to be heading for a trainwreck.

I actually liked the last few episodes. You can only do the same old situations so many times... I love the fact that the new boss doesn't like Jim and his smart ass answers keep making him look like an idiot... this show is still be better than 30 Rock.... I only find about 1 out of every 4 of that show funny, Alec Baldwin is the only funny one on that show.

so you like turning Dwight, one of the best characters on tv, into an insecure, hormone-crazed schoolboy?

Sorry, but they are destroying Dwight. Remember the visit to the night club, where Dwight's awkward interests and questions clashed with the blonde co-eds? Informing Michael matter of factly that he would not be calling them?

I don't remember complaints about that. The scranton branch overseer has changed many times without trashing the holier than thou couples.

My problem is not with the fact that they changed the characters and how they act because I think you need to do that to keep a show fresh, just as people in real life tend to change somewhat. What I do get frustrated with sometimes is what you were saying earlier where they start to introduce a new character, or new story and then just drop it. I don't mind what they aere doing with dwight, or even angela, but both of the changes should be more subtle and over a longer period.

I think they could have had kevin be the receptionist longer, and focus more on the new position that stanly was given as productivity coordinator. In the end seeing them not be able to do that job would refocus on what was assumed the first few years was that michael although absurd in some of his actions knows how to make the office work.

Prime example of a major problem...I forgot these even happened. They introduce something, then just ignore it. I don't know if the writers have developed A.D.H.D., just gotten lazy or have simply "lost it", but it's getting progressively worse.

I don't look into the show as some people, as I take it for what it is worth and that is free entertainment.

I agree, now some of the character developments I don't care for, but its not enough to push me away from the show. I just hope they get back to the Jim/Dwight pranks, because that was my favorite part of the show. Still my favorite show by far.
