It is not officially over but...the Celtics are in a great position.....nothing is for certain.....not much you can say about last night's game that probably has not already been mentioned but for me personally it will be a game I will always remember.......

The look on Kobe's face in the closing seconds was priceless.

  • "I've been reading you since the BSG days. I know it's great to go to the games, but it's Celtics-Lakers! If I told you back then that we'd have another Celtics-Lakers Finals and you let the whole series go by without a running diary, you would have said no way. Don't forget your roots and give us a diary -- nobody cares that you went to the game and sat 10 rows from Hugh Hefner or Luke Perry. Give us a diary, Simmons!"

Celtics coach Doc Rivers has worked some magic with his clipboard in the 2008 NBA Finals.

LOS ANGELES -- Entering this series, the one mismatch everyone pointed to wasn't on the court, but on the sidelines -- nine-time champion Phil Jackson against Finals neophyte Doc Rivers.


Well, it's been a mismatch all right. Just not the way we expected.


Doc -- the same Doc that Boston fans were clamoring to fire a year ago, and the same Doc that as recently as a few weeks ago was pounded in the press as the Celtics struggled -- is tooling around the legendary Zen Master, and has the Celtics one win away from the title as a result.


All series long it's been Rivers, not Jackson, who has pushed the right buttons and given his team the upper hand. That was never more evident than in Thursday's Game 4. Rivers' in-game adjustments helped the Celtics shake off a three-touchdown deficit, while Jackson was left fumbling for a response all the way through the final seconds, when the Lakers needed to burn two timeouts to advance the ball with 15.7 seconds left after they'd mistakenly inbounded the ball before using the first.

Inspired Celtics storm back to push Lakers to brink of elimination


LOS ANGELES (AP) -- This was how the Boston Celtics of yesteryear -- Cous and Russell and Bird and Hondo and the Chief -- would do it. Digging deep, they fought for every loose ball, scrapping with grit and guts, champions clad in green.
These Celtics are no different.

And they are just one win from another NBA title.

For the fourth straight season, Kobe Bryant's dreams of winning an NBA title sans Shaq have faded.

LOS ANGELES -- Finally in these NBA Finals, which really hadn't been so dreamy, you came away from the game actually talking about the basketball.
As opposed to wheelchair dramas, free-throw disparities and depressing shadows cast by a rogue referee.
You know what else?


You came away from Thursday night's historic Game 4 more than ready to draw conclusions, because the record-setting rally uncorked by the Boston Celtics in this 97-91 triumph amounts to a call-the-champagne-guy comeback.
Surely you won't disagree that we just saw a virtual series clincher.
It's the unavoidable conclusion when a 24-point lead -- at home -- isn't enough for No. 24.

It's bullshit b/c 3 things happen every time he does it:

1. He gets the call
2. He doesn't get the call but he turns the corner easily b/c a player knows if he is too aggressive he will get called for sure b/c Pierce already looks like he's being molested
3. He doesn't get the call and he bitches all the way back down the court as though the official missed the contact.

This isn't soccer. I just wish players could self-regulate like the old days b/c that shit would stop real quick.

I couldn't agree more. Every 4 years when the World Cup rolls around, I decide that I'm going to give soccer another chance and I actually think that maybe I'll like it this time. Of course, after about a half hour I remember why I stopped watching it in the first place--the ridiculous acting jobs (e.g., a player gets brushed in the leg and yet grabs his face and immediately falls to the ground as if he was shot in order to get a call) make the sport a ridiculous joke in my opinion.

Why is this relevant? Because players like Paul Pierce are turning the NBA into the exact same thing. Throughout the playoffs, I've seen Pierce throw his head back as if he just got punched in the face or crumble to the ground in a ridiculous mess anytime a defender gets within a foot of touching him. The worst part is, as billmac notes, the refs reward his behavior by giving him the call, and the announcers never call him out for pulling a fast one on the refs. That kind of garbage is making the NBA unwatchable. Pierce is by no means the only one who does this, but he is BY FAR the worst offender that I've seen.

go back and watch bill lambeer from the pistons on the 80's he took it to a whole other level...and rodman was quite the showman in the 90's also...i just think more guys do it now...kobe....pierce...lebron...they all overplay contact and fouls.

It isn't over just yet. There's a first time for everything. A team has come back from 3-1 before, just not in the Finals yet. But the tale of the tape heavily favors Boston to end this one within the next two games. Think about it...
1. They've owned the 3rd quarter of every game so far. 2. The Lakers only won by 6 while the Big 3 played their worst game of the series to date. 3. L.A.'s big men are playing like pussys (Gasol especially). 4. Boston is a more complete team. 5. Kobe has tried the selfish approach and barely won, 6. then he played the role of distributor for a half and they blew a 24-point lead.
As much as I hate to say this, stick a fork in the Lakers.
