NBA Discussion (Official Thread)

PERFECT! What these fuckers don't realize is that unlike the NFL, there are at least as many people praying for the ruination of the entire NBA with an indefineate stoppage as there are hoping for the lockout to end.

seriously. most people hate what the nba was becoming with the glorified AAU teams like the south beach butt buddies. they hated guys like deron williams and carmello strong arming themselves to different markets.

what's absolutely hilarious is that the owners' offer, which wasn't provided to the players by the union, contained 5 of the 6 recommendations made by the federal mediator.

good luck trying to argue in court that the owners weren't negotiating in good faith assclowns.

The owners need to come up with the salary structure that they want and then bring in a league full of scabs to play this season. Discount tickets 80% to get asses in the seats. Next year when 90% of the current NBA players have been out of work for over a year I bet they'll be happy to take what the owners are willing to give them. Hell I bet more than 25% would cross the line day 1 just so they can start getting paid again. I bet there are easily 400 D-leaguers or recent grads that would love to play for the minimum this season.

On the bright side today's decision by the players means there will be at least one more year Lebron won't win a title.

Do you have a link for this... I was looking to read some more on this internal meltdown the players are going to have... all I can find are general comments and people who seem to the think the players will win in court

i'll dig up the link. however, the players have no chance in court, and they know it. anyone claiming otherwise is likely a dullard.

Good call--they just did so. Evidently, neither they nor Hunter have yet figured out that the owners hold all the cards here. I love watching this.
Wrong. What both sides have yet to figure out is that the fans hold all the cards.

Yes, but few of those people were going to watch the NBA anyway. The NBA is the major sports league about which more people say, "Who cares?" than any other -- yet there are many avid fans.

A lot of midwesterners do not get the NBA. Not sure I do, on balance. But it remains a hugely popular sport, especially on the east coast. With all due respect, I don't think many of us here really understand the total dynamic of this thing.

That's a great point. The only reason I clicked on this thread is that I enjoy train wrecks - particularly when the trains are filled with people I don't like.

And in that regard Stern may be off target on one of his major objectives - to make small market teams competitive. What the NBA needs is a handful of New York Yankees and a larger number of Washington Generals - not an NBA final matching Utah and Charlotte.
