Navy 46, Notre Dame 44 (final, 3OT)

Yamamoto had three years to prepare for Navy... the final result was the same.

Yes, but Yamamoto was bright enough and humble enough to accept that the real battle wasn't against Navy but against US industrial might (let's call that "fundamentals") He accepted his shortcomings, knew that no amount of planning (let's call that scheming) could overcome his weaknesses, took his best shot at a knockout punch and failed.

If Yamamoto was like Weis, he deliberately would have foregone the logical route of attempting the quick knockout, and rather, would have relied on the arrogant belief that his superior planning ("schematic advantage") would be the deciding factor. You see it wouldn't have been about winning or losing. It wouldn't have been about his troops (players), his people (students and alumni) or his country (university). It would have been about winning solely in a manner for which the world press would acknowledge and glorify his personal genius. Geez, winning with a realistic gameplan, proper preparation and strong fundamentals would have been for losers like Nimitz and Halsey (Tressell and Carroll).

The greatest part of Charlie getting the L because he didn't trust his kicker to make a 41-yard FG is that he owes all those Patriots Super Bowl rings and (by extension) his status as Offensive Genius, to a kicker: Adam Vinatieri.

Charley is a genius, here's why

It is a little known rule of coaching (similar to Newton's Law) that in the third year of a coach's tenure, success or failure is completely due to the previous coach. Thus, even as Ty Willingham is totally responsible for the debacle at Notre Dame, Charley gets total credit for the success of the New England Patriots' offense. I am surprised that someone hasn't recognized this previously.

well then thats they same thing as a win. ND should move up to #3 in the BCS

Number three? Kiss my Irish ass? We should be in the BCS bowl. Look at our SOS. Now tell me who else has had their ass kicked by everyone but UCLA?

And how many of those other teams had cheesy wins by using field goals and punts. Hell, we even have our punter take a knee to even the odds. You other guys trot out some soccer or Aussie Rules guy to kick the ball around. We're Notre Dame we play football.
