Navy 46, Notre Dame 44 (final, 3OT)

Not going for the field goal was pure, classic Charlie Weis. No way, Weis takes the field goal. Any coach can win a game by kicking a field goal in the late 4th quarter. Make the fake, however, and all the highlight shows are talking about Charlie's guts and genius all afternoon and evening until the final wrap up shows.

It's what I've felt for a long time. This is all about Charlie--not the team, not the school, nor the students and alumni. It's all about Charlie's need to prove himself. He's like most grotesquely arrogant people I have known in my life--terribly insecure beneath the bluster and not too bright.

Winning by a FG at the last second is soooo Adam Vinatieri. Charlie has clearly moved on.

Navy 46 Notre Dame 44 (3 OT)
Midshipmen beat Irish for first time since 1963

Sunday, November 4, 2007 4:20 AM

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -- It's over. After 44 years and three overtimes.

Navy (5-4) finally beat Notre Dame 46-44 yesterday, ending the Fighting Irish's NCAA-record winning streak against the Midshipmen at 43 games.
"It's a big win for the academy," Navy coach Paul Johnson said. "I'm happy I don't have to answer anything else about the streak."
To put the drought in perspective: Roger Staubach was quarterback for the Midshipmen in 1963 when they beat Notre Dame 35-14.
Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada threw a 25-yard TD pass to Reggie Campbell on the first play of the third overtime, then found him again for the two-point conversion.
